I'm sorry if high jeck this thead it makes no sence in making another one about the same thing.

I've been thinking about this as well I've been having some transmission prob latly so i was thing about a swap, but not sure which tran. to go with. See my car is not paid off yet ( not long to go) and I don't like the new Lancers I'm more of a 02,03 Lancer kind of guy, So trading out for a manual is a lil harder for me. I know of a few people who can help me so I don't have to pay someone to do the work, well maybe a lunch or two and some drinks. BTW is the Clutch cable part of the Clutch assembly if no then that another part to add to the list.

Also you completely would have to change out your ECU harness, which would be a lot of fun.

I dont think it would be that hard to swap to a manual tranny... If I have my car when its paid off which I plan on im going to do a swap. I bought my car new in 03 so I like the fact that I know everything thats happened to it. worth it to me to swap it out. ECU may be a pain but pay someone to do that part. someone that knows what they are doing wouldnt take to long.

As long as the tranny bolts up and huge modifications isnt needed to fit in the undercarriage I think it would be fine. Pulling the engine isnt that hard so getting to the firewall to change all the pedals wouldnt be too difficult. For someone like me that has had the car since new and it has really low miles its worth it I think. Gimme I think 4 more years and ill do it......lol

Y should it bolt-up. They are the same car with same...... EVERYTHING. But it is worth calling the dealership first to make sure.

We got opinions so far

Well I know that everyone has their own opinions but when it comes to a manual swap in a volvo, the parts cost you around $1500. ECU is usually not a big deal since most of the guys doing this swap already have custom ecu's and you just take out your TCU.

As far as tranny mounts go, the car is the same except for the transmission, frame is likely not changed either. Best bet is to find someone who has the manual tranny and compare to yours to confirm the part #'s

Honestly speaking this is not a hard job, some guys even do this in their garage...just jack the car up and drop the tranny from below. Don't be intimidated just rather than talk, start collecting parts and do your homework. Too many haters on this board who tell you everything is not worth it or will only believe it if RRM says its true.

I would like to do it but its like this to me...spend around $1200 to do a swap or around $2500 and do a turbo...

Easy choice if you ask me. Swap after the turbo...

I think the work involved is simply too high considering the price of the car.

yea the parts all combined wont be too much... Even if I were to buy em new... Looking at around $3500-$4000... So if I were to buy everything used, would be considerably cheaper... Think I may go junkyard searching...

Well after pricing a lot of it out, I think I may try and take the plunge at this... Better than buying a manual and transferring everything I have put into my auto..
