GTS: Liking the CVT
hey guys. today was my first time driving with CVT paddle shifters. I didnt want to put too much stress on the engine since its new, so i didnt get to drive fast. I heard that CVT is faster than manual? Is it true? sorry i newb so dont flame me. How do u guys feel about the CVT paddle shifters?
its gorgeous. like "pure" ya kno!? I get excited everytiem i see a white evo too. except i saw this really old guy driving one on the way to atlanta lats night. made me a little mad.
I love my CVT. It's the closest i can get to manual and let my wife drive. Plus Chicago traffic and a clutch dont mix well for me. I havent got used to the paddle shifters yet, i prefer the stick. automatic really eats up the acceleration so I like to start in "sport" mode, then kick over to Auto after i reach cruising speed.
hey I'm assuming from your name you work at otto. I was gonna get my car from you guys but you didn't have the one I wanted. I live right near clifton park but ended up getting my car from denooyer. anyway I love having the cvt too even though it makes me miss my 5spd eclipse. stop and go traffic is much more pleasant and I love how smooth it is in drive although I wish it was smoother in manual mode.
does it hurt the cvt when you switch from drive to sport mode on the highway.. I usualy go to sport mode to downshift and pass.. then i switch it back to drive... would i be hurting the cvt by doing this?
BUT, here's something you might not know - you can do that in D. If you're rolling in D on the freeway and hit some slower traffic, you can downshift with the paddles. Just downshift (the car will automatically put it in manual mode even though you're in D), do your passing, and then hold the upshift paddle for 2 seconds and it'll convert back to normal D.
Does that make sense? It works in my head, but I don't know how it reads for someone that has never done it...

I was up to 60 real quick
