i have a mt... i sell them and have driven both on a pretty regular basis... i prefer the mt for the better launches and the ability to push the car as hard as i want to, but if you look up the cvt manual gear shift ratios it looks like it would probably be better for drag racing with the exception of the launch... its a coin toss, so i kept my $1100 and went mt!

That would take someone VERY skilled in ECU tuning and technology. I don't plan on EVER seeing it available, but you never know.

MT vs CVT, the better one is depending on what you want.

Preferably, if I was going to mod my car, I'd prefer a sportier feel using a manual transmission. I've driven both a CVT type car and manual and I definitely feel more in control in a manual car. I get more experience out of the drive.

But in saying that, if I had to choose between a MT or CVT transmission, I'd go MT based on the experience, the feel and control. The CVT tranmission on the 08 Lancers from what I've read is that - CVT are limited to 6000rpm - stock, whilst the MT goes beyond that to 6500rpm.

My SE-R clutch lasted almost 11 years, and 135,000 miles worth of moderate abuse. It's all about the driver IMO. I drove it very hard, but never shifted very fast and hard. I can go just as fast as anyone else, but I don't slam every gear like some people. In my opinion, slam shifting is only benificial (sp) on the drag strip, where every little thing counts.

As far as MT vs. CVT... it's whatever suits your style. I am a hardcore MT guy, but I do find the CVT to be much more fun than I ever imagined. However, the GTS I have on order for myself is a manual.

my cvt has a 100,000 mile warranty so it must be built tough. plus i dont know what anyone is talking about slow 1st gear my gts is quick i think if you hit it too fast it slows it down. just hold it at about 3000 to 3500 rpm and its blows every normal car off the line and you can barely hear it rev up and with no shift sounds it leaves everyone thinking its much faster than it is lol. at that rpm i clock about 7 secs on my stop watch 0-60. i think the stock wheels slow down the cvt alot cause on the size and weight. i noticed a big difference once i took them off. i can spin the tires now a little in cvt mode when i had stocks i couldnt at all.

^^yea i noticed that.. my stocks NEVER spin. not that i actually want to burnout, but if it does, it makes me feel as if it quicker.

Well, dsrt, my other car is a 5.0 GT. there is a huge difference, my mustang FLIES off the line and its sickening compared to the 1st gear of the CVT GTS... ive just been spoiled by a 5.0 V8 is all. And its hard NOT to spin the tires in the mustang lol, where as you get lucky with the CVT GTS.

My decision was also infulenced by the fact that as stated before the CVT is covered under warrenty and as its not repairable, if it breaks we get a whole new replacement under warrenty VS Needing replacement of the clutch....

Although that also depends on the abuse to it...

also, why would you hold it at 3 or 3.5 when mivec kicks in past 4? the problem is getting to 3 that makes the CVT 1st gear slow. once there, yes it is fast.
