* Did Mitsubishi Get the CVT Right?
All,
If anyone is interested I found a pdf document giving detailed info on the CVT (rpm vs vehicle speed shift curves for manual mode, and automatic modes)
the thing i found the most interesting is the curve for Manual mode is direct torque converter clutch control. I have attached a copy of the curves and shift points for info. It seems there is a dead zone between 1k and 2krpm where the torque converter does not lock. there also seems to be a partial lock zone between 1k and 2krpm. It appears from the graph that the line between the no lock zone and partail lock zone falls right on 2nd gear. The entire document is about 38 pages but it is too large to post so if anyone wants it, PM me your email and I will send it to you.

I love the Lancer's CVT - smooth and quiet. I consider the Lancer far above average in many respects - certainly the best-looking car on the road. My Lancer has no problem climbing steep hills at speed (noiselessly), and averages 33 mpg or more on the highway. The Lancer's engine/transmission combination is an excellent compromise between power and gas mileage. I've read reviews (e.g. Edmund's) which says that the Lancer has a "power sapping CVT" with a "weak and noisy" engine - they must have been driving a Chrysler 200 with a conventional automatic transmisison, and got their notes mixed up.
