Automatic Transmission...weird sound

I have a Auto transmission and when I back up and then shift into drive and step on the gas the left front tire makes a small pop noise. No I do not do nuetral drops, power braking or any other destructive act on transmissions.

Thank You

Best bet would be to take it to your dealer and have them look at it.

When in doubt...take it to the dealership and play dumb (if you caused the problem that is).

what's power braking? I'm dumb, I appologize. As for transy drop, how bad is it for the automatic transmission. My friend has a 2001 eclipse, and he does that all the time, I told him it's bad for the transmission, but he wouldn't listen. How many transy drops can you do before you wreck your transmission?

depends...but it is bad...lot of times if you are lucky it will just snap or pop out yore torque converter/flywheel bolts. It can even trash first gear totally...tell the uneducated one to stop, or his eclipse will soon eclipse the front lawn as a ornament.

I don't care if he trashes his 2001 eclipse gs, stupid 3rd gen. eclipses, wish they'd bring the 2nd gen. back, can't stand those wavy doors.

Power braking and neutral drops are totally different things.

N-drops tear your auto tranny to pieces the fastest. Hold revs in N and drop into gears. Column shifting like a manual also tears up your tranny too. Both sound fast but ineffiecient.

Power braking. Holding the brake and gas at the same time. You can only do it for a short period (under 4 sec), or your TQ converter will burn up from lack of tranny fluid circulation.

you're shifting too fast before the ecu can properly tell the tranny to shift in gear.

is that what that is...i never noticed it before...but with a 100watt stereo system(first one I ever had) I dont exactly drive in complete silence.

now keep in mind it is not a popping noise like screeching tires..but like on a older car when you have a mad transmission mount, whichis what im afraid of. but it is a small pop and it is noticeable.

I was thinking about getting the LSD front end at tax time...which will void my power train warranty. but if I take it in and they dont want to fix the noise if it is something bad...the lsd might be a good choice.

I hope it does not come down to that.
