Question Cat Bolts

Hi Guys, I just got my magna flow cat back system in today, so i was all excited well when i went out to install it i noticed the bolts on my stock cat are rusted so bad that the threading is gone, (believe it has never seen a snow fall). but my queston is are the bolts on the cat replacable if i just brake them of and if they are replaceable can i pick them up at a local auto zone or parts america? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you will more than likely need to use some pliers and remove the bolts from the cat, im pretty sure that they are threaded into the cat flanges. i have done my headers and cat-back, and as far as i can remember they are threaded into the cat. but you should be able to pick some up a local auto shop. definitely do not cut the bolts though, it will make it very difficult if it is threaded into the cat. good luck.

Agreed, look closely at the front, they're either threaded in or they're studs (can't remember but threaded sounds right). Hit 'em with some Kroil for a couple days before, maybe heat with a torch. My car had only 5K miles and the nuts/threads looked pristine, but it took a *lot* of force to break the nuts loose. Torque spec on them is only like 40 ft-lbs!

They are threaded into the cat, but youi can't remove them, just put some *** into it and kroil, or pb blaster and have at it. If anything, just cut the nuts off with a torch or dremel and cutting wheel., not the whole bolt.

Cut them off if you'd like. By brother ended up braking all of his on his rusted cat and downpipe ('98 Integra from MI). His bolts used a spring between the to pieces, but I'm really in the dark with the Lancers. Any bolt with a locking nut will work, if that is applicable on our cars.

they might look bad, but wd40 them or similar for a good 6 hours before hand (repeatedly, give them a good soaking).

then just use a breaker bar or impact wrench if you have one (might be worth it to rent it from home depot or something)

if all else fails, have a shop put it up on a lift and take them out
