Ah I broke a screw!

When I was changing my base bushing i snapped the top right screw in half. So now the other half of the screw is screwed into the base and the other half is in my hand. It still shifts ok and there is only a little bit of movement in the shifter cage. Am I going to be alright? How could i possibly fix this? Or am I screwed?

You might wanna get that fixed, I'm sure the dealership could solve it for you.

Question the other day on the 5...

my car crapped out, the clutch still has pressure and you have to push it in to start the vehicle, but the shifter freely moves through the gears without making any noise or shifting the transmissions gear. Is there a cable or linkage that connects the shifter to the transmission?

Yeah, there's two. One handles the left-right action of the shifter, the other does the front-back motion.

I think one of the cables must've come off. Your shifter is just moving around freely, it seems

Wow I can't believe I didn't come back to this thread and say what i did. I went in and removed the metal base of the entire white shifter assembly. It was not too hard to get the piece of screw out after that.

For your problem it seems that something came loose that connectes the shifter to the transmission. it is done through two cables (i think) and has two connections to control the front back/ left right movements of the shifter as blacksheepdj said. i would take apart the center console and check to see if something simply came loose as opposed to snapping or breaking. good luck!
