I think I've experience something like that before. What I notice about my car is that on first gear, only at around 3k rpm is when the car really kicks hard. It's something like a mini burnout since it's driving smoothly until 3k rpm then vrooom, it kicks in. Mini burnout because of the sudden speed burst? Dunno maybe?
It's happened to me if I push it hard. Pedal all the way to the floor and when it reaches 3k rpm, I can feel the tire slip a bit. It'll get it's grip back right away and I can feel that the car going alot faster. My back would dip into the seat a bit from the force. Almost like it's a different car or something. It only happens if I push the pedal to the floor before 3k rpm. I drive a CVT. I can only do it in sports mode. Don't happen during auto mode.
All I can say is let up on the pedal a bit when you're about to hit 3krpm and push it when it's around 5krpm and you should be able to reach the redline without slipping or wait til after 3-4k rpm before you hit the pedal to the floor.
I don't drive like this everytime. Just trying to see what this car can do during the times when there's no one on the road.

You're probably referring to the MIVEC point. The car does gain some power when you kick over to MIVEC mode.

don't mean to go off-topic but I have this problem as well in my evo. When I go wot in 1st, I get wheelspin in the fronts so I have to shift into 2nd. Is this normal? I thought since it had awd it wouldn't spin but maybe the diff doesn't have enough time to send torque to the rear wheels once the fronts let loose?

have you looked at the tread on your tires lately? I mean come on, I've taken my car to the track and the only time i've lost traction is when i take off. It's slipped for like 1/2 sec and came back, and thats not from dumping the clutch either. But i've never slipped when hitting around 4K rpm in 1st gear.

do you drop the clutch or do you just engage it normally and then open the throttle?

No i don't drop the clutch, but I am quick on the take off and just open the throttle till i reach 4K rpm then goto 2nd and reach 4.5K and shift there each gear till i reach the end of the track. Track is an 1/8 mile so i was able to reach 4th gear but for only like a second. My best so far was 11s@64mph. Then again i've only been down a track like 4 times total and the car is 100% stock (for now). I know i can get better times, and maybe if i wait till 5K-5.5K to shift i can reach 70mph or higher.

Uhmmm... yeah, when you shift at 4-4.5K you drop the engine out of its "power band" with each shift. If you run it up to 5.5-6K then you stay IN the "power band" when you switch to the next gear. You WANT to stay in the power band for best acceleration.
