trying to find transmission filter in 03 lancer ES

Hi Guys, So i am trying to change the transmission fluid in my 03 Lancer ES, i went to the store and bought the filter (looks just like an oil filter) and bought 8 quarts of transmission oil. I found the drain plug for the transmission oil, but i cant find where the transmission filter is!

Any one have any idea, i tried doing a search for this but came up with nothing. Thanks for your help ahead of time guys!

What store? dealership? I could swear the tranny filter was a "panel" filter...shaped like the factory air filter.

I called a few dealers and auto parts store, the only one that had anything in stock was auto zone, and they sold me a spin on filter.

I called the dealer today and they said it was a pan filter.

Is it a pan filter or a spin on filter?

I'm pretty sure it's not a spin-on filter, in fact, what's the part # on that filter Auto Zone gave you?

its a pan filter and its inside the tranny, you have to drop the tranny to replace it. just flush the fluid, refill and go goodluck

^So yeah, I was inside Firestone for a flat-repair the other day and just asked about this filter. Their system brought up a screw-on filter as well...but it was the exact same picture they had for the oil filter in the system. I'm sticking to my original post saying it's a pan/panel filter. Try the dealership...
