My car AC seems to smell weird if I turn if off and turn it back on again almost immediately. I looked around the web and found that it might be due to mold formation in the cabin air filter but I realized that an 02 OZ rally does not come with one. Does anyone know what the potential issue could be and how can i solve it.

Try taking the dead cat out of your engine bay. jk. Bump for help!

 

Mine smells weird too when I fire up the AC, but I don't really care as I never use it. I only turn it on every once and a while for a bit to circulate it.

 

well its probably because condensation built up in all your duct piping , and the water has caused mold to grow , your only option is to remove the dash board and clean every piece of duct piping replace you blower motor , ect, also mod your airbox to have a cabin filter i beleive 02-03 got screwed on cabin filters...

 

Cabin filter would just be another spot for mold to grow on...


Edit: Also a good thing to do is turn your AC off a minute or two before you get to your destination, but keep the fans running.
