low fuel light

ok so i must admit, im still not too savvy on the lancer yet, still trying to figure out all her secrets.

its kind of a random question, but at which point should the low fuel light engage? i took a pic of where ive had it sitting and as you can see, no light. i hoping the damn thing works, but also hoping to get some advice from guys who know theirs works.

if someone could save this pic, and then photoshop a line in it to show me where the light would typically engage at, that would be awesome.

here be the pic, thanks for any help in advance

Right in here somewhere.
You can easyily go longer without fuel then your photo.
I know I could go another 40 miles or more without problem from where you are in your photo.

While I hit my fuel light quite a bit, you don't really wanna push it too too much because it's hard on the fuel pump or whatever. So I heard. I milk my tanks though. Did it for 3 years on my last car and never had problems.

i dont think it would be hard on the pump. the only way i could see that it would be is if the fuel was swishing and swashing around and allowing your pump to "dry pump" at points during driving. but i dont know exactly how factful my hypothesis is for sure. so bear that in mind

You have some more room before it goes on. But If your really determined, just drive her till you run out of fuel and carry a backup of gasoline .

sadly that was going to be the plan as soon as im actually motivated

i thought it wouldnt be a bad idea to have you guys throw in your knowledge aswell though. ive never seen one need to drop so low before it comes on, but what do i know lol

LOL

Yea I hear you.

I use to let it get really low before I started refueling. Now once its gets about 50 - 30% I refill my tank.

On a Knowledge Side:

Rule of thumb supposedly is , Don't wait until "empty" to fill up. The best time to fill up is when ur gas tank is half empty. The more gas you have in your tank the less air their is in your tank. Gasoline evaporates fast, and it will evaporate even more rapidly when it is warm. Gas tanks are equipped with an internal floating roof membrane to serve as a barrier between the atmosphere and the gas. This minimizes evaporation, so you'll want to fill up more often.

very interesting point!!!! thank you.

i dont think i have to worry about the warmth causing my fuel to evaporate, i live in the upper penn of michigan and its already cold as hell

as a point to your knowledge (with only half the point) if your carrying less fuel you weigh less and thus use less fuel getting up and staying at speed.ergo you save a couple of ML's of fuel. lol

thanks for the tips though...i did learn something
