2011 ES MMCS not recognizing HFM
2011 ES MMCS not recognizing HFM
Hello everyone. I hope you can help. I'm at my wits end here and I live 200 miles from the nearest Mitsubishi dealership.
I have a thread in the Lancer Audio forum detailing my project and what parts I used here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/la...s-upgrade.html
I have a 2011 Lancer ES to which I added an MMCS N-05 unit. I got an HFM / Bluetooth kit for my Lancer and installed it (8755A049). Software version 19. The MMCS unit will not recognize the HFM module and even the CAN connected equipment diagnostic does not show the HFM as connected.
Here is where it gets wierd.
I pulled the MMCS unit and reinstalled the factory CD player. With the factory CD installed, the FUSE system works. Hands Free works. I was able to link it to my phone, make/receive calls, and listen to a USB drive full of music.
I swapped back to the MMCS AGAIN. After reinstalling the 8750A238 N-05 MMCS unit, again, the HFM unit / USB is not recognized. Funny thing though, my phone still pairs with the HFM, it just doesn't DO anything.
I suspect the problem is one of 3 things:
1) My current wiring harness is 8755A020, which is a deprecated version of 8755A055. When I originally ordered the 8755A055 harness, what I received was the 020 version. From what I can tell they are the same thing, but I don't know. Maybe I should get a new one?
2) Something is wierd with my MMCS unit. According to the CAN box VIN history, it was originally installed in a 2010 Outlander and I purchased it from a part supplier in Florida. It has 2009 NA maps loaded, and I noticed that RDS doesn't work on it (but it does have TCM capability). CAN is v126.
3) In another forum post, someone mentioned that a dealership tech with an MUT-III unit needs to "activate" the HFM in order for it to interact with the MMCS unit. Not sure on the veracity of this. I would really like to get confirmation before I drive to the other side of the state and shell out a mass of cash.
Any possible help would save my day.

Update:
Called the dealer in Lincoln, and he told me that 8755A020 is the same part as 8755A055, they just changed the part number. I also looked up the 2010 Outlanders and they also came "FUSE ready". He also said that the dealership may need to activate the FUSE system using a MUT III. It is that may part that bothers me. This guy works in the service department, and they had to have seen oodles of these cars over the last 8 years. Maybe I can sucker them into enabling RDS while they are at it.
So that means I can take #1 and maybe #2 off the list.
Other news: With the single CD factory radio, everything works, but I also noticed that BT and USB audio only comes out the right side of the audio system.
When going through the wiring diagrams and schematics, also noticed that there is a pin for left channel audio of the Hands Free system that does NOT have a matching wire in the factory car harness. Did these things come from the factory only outputting Bluetooth / USB audio on the passenger side of the vehicle? If so, it looks like I may be adding a wire to the connector. Fortunately, someone else on this forum already did most of the research for acquiring the pins.

New update 1 Feb 2019
CAN connected equipment
Service Menu
So I got the mini-VCI, paid for a server request on ETACSdecoder, and changed the following 3 settings:
AUDIO: present --> Not Present
AVN: not present --> Present
HFM: not present --> present
After restarting the car, the CAN unit now detects the HFM. Unfortunately, the N-05 MMCS unit still has the Hands Free Module / USB BOX greyed out.
What am I missing? It detects the dang thing when the factory stereo is installed, but tells me to bork myself when the NAV is in.
I suspect this forum is pretty much dead, but I am hoping some kind soul spots this and gives me a suggestion.
Edit: Found the issue after going back over another post here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/evo-x-electrical-audio-security/581300-did-i-just-screw-myself-3.html
user @ericjai113 had the exact same issue and after purchasing the correct harness it fixed the issue. Sadly, they posted a link to the part, but not the part number, and now the link is dead.
Regardless of what the jackwagon at the dealership said, 8755A020 is NOT the same as 8755A055. Turns out that A055 was made specifically for the 2011 2012 Lancer for the express purpose of connecting the FUSE system to the N-05 MMCS unit.
I do not have the cash right now to get a new harness, so I am gonna dig for wiring diagrams and see if I can manually add the missing wires to the A020 harness. If I could find service manual page 54C that would be awesome, but that thing is like a bigfoot riding a unicorn for some reason.
On the upside, changing those settings in the ETACS also fixed the "right side only" audio problem from the HFM when the 1CD factory stereo is installed.

did u ever get to work I just installed the hfm kit and nothing is working at all my control lights works since I got the car. the kit was deadass plug and play. I haven’t tried to see if the old work personally since I just got the kit last night installed it after work today I would have to tear the radio apart which isn’t that hard since the plastic off having been able to get a good deal on a cover yet sorry for runny my mouth for a sec there but ima trust u that the old one will work. I’m mainly asking if u got the harness if that work ima be honest idk if it will since I got my radio used of a lancer the owner gave it to me with the bracket still on and harness connected so I want to say it is 055 not 020 but I would be wrong gotta check idk if it helps I got it off a 2008
also the radio doesn’t even have the option for hfm in service mode screen and in the main menu all I have is fm am dvd cd aux I don’t have mobile phone or anything like that and I also doesn’t have Sirus I was able to fine a module for killer deal but is there even a point to install it if it not going to show up any clue what harness it even is car doesn’t have it or I’m just looking in the wrong area even tho the car is disconnected been plus 11year on most lancers and stuff still hard to find info on
