SVO Mustang or Buick GN - Help Me Decide!
Now that my new EVO has an extra 100hp and looks like new, I intend to keep it as a weekend-only car, and need something else to drive to & from work, to the gym, Supermarket, short road trips, etc.
I've decided between two cars, and I am presently looking at one of each. One is an '86 SVO Mustang (turbo 2.3L), the other a '87 Buick Grand National (turbo 3.8L). The Buick will cost me ~$1500, but the SVO is in great condition. Both are classiscs, and are relatively inexpensive and easy to maintain. I intend to put a bit of money in each in the way of upgrades, but not too much.
The Buick GN - big car, automatic, straight line performance, very fast moving couch
The SVO - '80s Mustang, 5-spd., great handling, solid mid 13 sec performer with upgrades
Help me decide!

To me the 2.3 turbo motor in the Mustang was not all that great. Had a very farm tractor sound to it. The Mustang back then was really not all that in handling either as it had a rather "loose" platform.
The Buick had a great motor (IMHO), structure was considerbly stiffer and were just sinister as hell in all black. You can make alot more HP with the Buick.
You've already got a car that handles great (Evo), the price is not significant between the two, so why not get one of the faster "couches" in muscle car history?

Actually, I don't find either to be especially appealing in that let's just say neither sounds as nice as a Ferrari V12. I can get 13s from the SVO, 12s from the Buick in reasonable street trim. The SVO is almost certainly more fun to drive, the Buick always has more value.

This is really a no brainer. The GN all the way. The SVO was an ok car but the GN is a ROCK STAR! The GN is a car that is EASY to get in to the 12's.
I drove the SVO many times and was NEVER impressed by it. I owned a GN and to this day hate myself for ever getting rid of it. Worst mistake I ever made.
I can still hear the WHOOOOSH in my dreams...
