2005 Z51 Corvette
2005 Z51 Corvette
Well, I went to my local dealer yesterday and test-drove the 2005 Z51 Corvette 6 speed trans of course. And I must say after a very spirited drive I wasn't impressed. For the money the Vette costs put that difference into the Evo and the Vette I believe would see nothing but taillights. The suspension button on competition level and the Vette still did not inspire confidence in the turns compared to the Evo. The torque on the Vette is unbelievable but the steering felt like I was driving a sports boat. Needless to say I will NOT be trading in my beloved Evolution VIII for a Corvette any time soon. The Evo is just that good, outstanding, superb, awesome, just plain oh F***ing GREAT.
Just wanted to voice my own opinion, Thanks.......

I have put 35,000 miles on an 01 Z06 and recently bought an 05 Evo that my wife and I share. I have driven the Evo 2000 miles over a variety of roads. Personally, I think the Vette handles and corners as well as the Evo - the two cars just have different feeling reflexes.
The Evo's steering is very quick, which I like, but it is also somewhat twitchy compared too the Vette. The Corvette rides quite a bit better then the Evo and feels more composed on rough pavement. The Evo feels smaller which I prefer to the larger and bulkier feel of the Corvette. Both cars have great grip, and the Evo is especially good in the wet. Overall, I like them both, although they feel dramatically different.
Power wise it really isn't that close. The Evo feels quick with the intial turbo rush, but the Z06 really does have quite a bit more power, especially over 80 mph. And, the Corvette gets better gas mileage which surprises me somehow
Sure, you could mod your Evo to be as fast as the Z06, but there are many downsides to modded cars. First of all, you would probably decrease the market value of your car and loose every dollar you spent on the mods so that's hardly a bargain. You would also void the warranty, and probably make the car harsher, less comfortable, and less reliable.
Still, the difference in price is considerable and the Evo is a he11 of a car or $31,000. Howvers, if I was in the $45,000 to $48,000 range I'd get a C6.

If by "anything else" you mean off road rally only, then yeah, youre right.
I recommend DRIVING cars before you make incorrect sweeping generalizations. Vettes are fast, in a straight line and on a road course. Dont kid yourself.

The "only in a straight line" crap has to be the national anthem of rice *L*Go to some autocross or road racing, even better try some yourself (I do
). Even previous gen (C5) Vettes are VERY capable at either. The new ones are off the chart.

Another ZR-1, 16 years later. Awesome car that you will never see on the road.
