No it doesn't. New GTO has the C6 6.0 liter w/ 400hp, not the Z06 5.7 liter w/ 405hp, and definitely not the NEW Z06 7.0l w/ 500hp.

Anyways, I would think the Evo would be better to launch and therefore better for drag. If you're looking for a highway on the roll type of straight line race, then I'd opt for the GTO. GTO's are friggin' nice. Initially I didn't like them since I'm biased against pontiacs in general, but after having learned it was made by Holden and seeing the actual interior/engine, I changed my mind.

In the case of the CTS-V, I believe it DOES have the 5.7 liter C5 Z06 with a slightly detuned to 400hp engine, whereas the GTO still has the 6.0 liter C6 engine.

I agree - you need to make the choice.

But just to put in my opinion / thoughts on the subject since you asked what people think... I worked for GM for a little bit and I do not have ANYthing positive to say about their warranty and/or recall procedures. I know that Mitsubishi may not be as good as they claim about "standing behind" their vehicles either, but I talked to a lot of Vette owners that had some pretty serious quality issues and the owners were almost always dissatisfied. Now I worked there a few years ago and the GTO was not out yet (it was just being unveiled at shows), but I really do not think much of the car as far as performance... I think the Evo would outperform it everywhere with a few choice mods. But that's just me. You should test drive one and see if you really do like it as much or more and go from there.

most of us would stick with the evo cause thats what we have however for your situation and what you want out of the car the GTO is a better fit.

The only hesitation I would have in recomending it is the reliability and resale on the car. Whens the last time you checked resale value of a used pontiac sedan??? yea ouch.... and the reliability of pontiacs isn't exactly legendary either but you are buying brand new and it will be warrenteed at least for a while. Just food for thought.

Must say guys I sell the 05' Goat and as much as I loved my Evo, I would have to go with the GTO. I know... blasphemy! I have had many a ride in the new beast and it is REAL fast stock, but I have a customer who brought his by for me to check out and after an exhaust, intake, reworked ECM, and $1,700 on a Kenny Ball running 8psi (pump gas BTW), he dyno'd at 612RWHP & 592RWTQ!! Total mod cost = ~$3,000. Oh and by the way, my 350whp Evo would have gotten sucked up in his tail pipe (I may have gotten him off the line but that wouldn't have lasted very long)! The car was SCARY fast, and unlike the Evo's, there is no lag, no waiting, we are talking about 550+ rwtq from 1680rpm to redline.

Stock for Stock, there is no comparison in straight line performance, the GTO pulls like a beaten mule. Don't get me wrong with the right driver (and a good clutch) the Evo may take it from a dig and let the turbo do the rest, but you better pray to god that the guy driving the GTO doesn't get it to hook up cause if he does... game over, and from a roll... don't even bother.

Man I miss my Evo!

BTW - I hate to say it but the fit and finish on the GTO is 10x nicer than the Evo

Just an FYI - The GTO, CTS-V, and the C6 all have the exact same drivetrain. LS2, 6.0L, 400HP & 400TQ

Huh then I must be reading this wrong, because Cadillac's website says the CTS-V has the same 5.7L LS6 engine that they put in the C5 Z06.

I bet with rebates you can get the GTO for under $30,000. Will do consistent mid 13's off the showroom floor, but I wouldn't want to drive it in the winter!

I feel like the Evo is the first car ever made at any price point that is everything I have ever wanted in 1 car. Bonus that I can afford it.

The GTO well, in my humble opinion great motor (but hardly anything new) in another mundane GM package.

good luck
