Am I missing something here? The GTI's start at $21,990, well below a new Evo...unless you know of somewhere to get an Evo that cheap. Are the GTI's getting marked waaay up? I hadn't heard about that...

It is this little black thing from the commercials, basically it just tells the driver to drive faster, etc. It's kinda creepy in the commercials, but it would be cool to get a little one for the dash or something if that had a GTI...

Or even better, hook it up as a hood ornament!

pretty damn tempting car for $21000k...probably the best under $25k you can buy. i used to be a dubber with a a mkiv 20th...and it was a decent car. it had some quality issues since it was built in brazil, but the new one is home grown in germany, so that should take care of a lot of the problems associated with the mkiv.

if you wait until july, they will release the 4 door hatch version (for $500 more) and more importantly...they will have a launch control program for the dsg which will apparently improve 0-60 and 1/4 times by half a second . they run decent #'s...stock: 0-60 6.3 & 1/4 14.9@93.

someone mentioned tuning the car, on the vwvortex.com they have dyno's showing that they have something to 190whp stock...and with just a chip, 3" turboback and CAI...you get 80whp!

i'm sorta looking into them once i sell my evo, but the only problem i have with them is the ride height, they jacked it up .8" forthe us market...which really numbed the handling. but that can be fixed with some coil overs!

Are those 0-60 numbers for the GTI hatch? VW and Motor Trend are quoted in the 7.0 - 7.2 range, so I would be a little surprised if it really ran at 6.3...but you never know.

this was from the car and driver issue where they compared the gti to the civic si...and i was a bit off, it's 0-60 is 6.6. i believe the motortrend article tested a pre production version.

Ah, ok, good deal, I had seen that it was a pre-production version, but I didn't know that the production version got faster. Thanks for the info!
