bought one last week

i just bought a black GTI last week

straight from the dealer to the garage, to be worked at for the GTI Cup Series

its a beautiful car to drive, handles and brakes better than i thought.
its not as fast as my evo, but around corners alright, specially now it has a set of AST coilovers and toyo R888 tires

I'm a car enthusiast in General, and I've been rocking a 1.8t for almost 3 years. The 1.8t platform has been evolving slowly but steadily. the MKIV's have been alright, but have suffered on some reliabilty issues with all of the DBW issues. The cars have been DBW since '00 so, i'm sure that this current gen will be fine.

I had all sorts of issues w/ knock and pulling timing even after a FMIC c16, and enough mods that i shouldn't be knocking or having ANY cooling issues.

I'm really excited about the 2.0 FSI motor and the next gen VWs. I've got issues with the looks but it's nothing a fat drop and a more appropriate set of wheels won't cure.

As far as my next daily driver: I'd still shoot for an Evo. I love my 1.8t Jetta despite the issues I've had destroying the flacid 02j transmissions. it's great on the koni's and H&R's th 245 45 17's grab better than the factory 205's and the 3" tb chip, lw flywheel/good clutch/ UDPK mean that while power is restricted by the turbo there is ZERO lag. 210whp is not horrible , but it's not bragging territory really unless you looked at the size of a K03s.

I'm all for these as an alternative to the k series cars, I like the new SI alright but it's so bland I'd much rather have the low and wide , flat-bottom'd steering wheel'd 300lb/ft of tourque to the crank w/ a 500 chip I'd get out of that GTI.

The original hot hatch is back in my book, and it's got some making up to do, but I'm confident they'll be a great car.

I've seen these around at a couple AutoX's. Nice looking cars. If I wasn't certain my next car will be a WRX I'd consider it. Is this the car with the commercial that has that 'fast' creature telling the driver to go faster? I want one of them for my dash.

The new GTI is sweet. I love VW's but it's not fast enough for me. By the time I get the car up to 400whp I would have spent almost double then it would take to make my evo that fast.

here is a link for the chip...on 93 octane it has 303 ft lbs

yes the gti is being built in germany now. i believe the lower model golf's and jetta's are being built in mexico or brazil

the fast is a marketing deal vw is using to sell the new GTI's. it's a black plastic rabbit pretty much. you get one in the mail after you buy the car.

[QUOTE=Arithmetic]Ive been keeping my eye on this car since it's debut in europe. 5th gear and top gear gave it Car of The Year. Ive put it on my list of next car to look at for a purchase. I like the fact its a FSI turbo with a 6spd or DSG, but its FWD (sigh). The exterior and interior is sweet thou... I mean, it's a real HOT HATCH.

I love the new GTI. These cars are quality and performance. They do hold the value very high as well and they are good on gas mileage.

I wish I had one.

Ive heard good things about these "chips" that make vw, audis and the likes open up like a prostitue, but WTF... 3 mods = 80whp!

APR seems to be the current fav with the GTI. here are some that come to mind...all with similar results. GIAC, Revo, Neuspeed, Upsolute.
