Jesus effing christ. Big-block high-dollar american muscle can beat our 4-door 2.0L 4-cylinder cars...wow...

It's funny people are like "oh yeah well a Z06 can beat your car" well yeah...it can...and it costs a crap-ton of money...and somehow at open-track days I manage to get around Z06's and my car is almost stock...

It's blatantly obvious that the Evo is not the ideal platform for drag racing. That said, there are a bunch of local evos running 11's w/ bolt-ons. Not many other cars, domestic or otherwise, are doing this.

Let me know 1 domestic at 30k price tag that can handle 500whp without internal work done???

I have nothing against domestic v8's. There cool cars but you'll need at least a vette to out handle an evo.

Well, not meaning to jack this thread but the fact that little honda motors are capable of making 790+hp with big turbos is a sign to me that imports are gaining on the bigger displacement motors. Also, I kind of like the fact that my little Evo with just under 400hp can more than hang with most LS1's and Cobra's making more hp due to those cars being freaking pigs(except for the Vette). I love Cobra's and Vette's mostly for that deep V8 rumble but as long as import guys have the money, there will always be someone faster I promise whether it's an Evo, Civic, or the all mighty Supra...Happy Motoring

I just have to mention this....there is a guy running around with a Ducati 900SL that is a 2 valve motorcycle pushing 192hp to the rear wheel. He has run the 1/4 in 9 seconds at 150mph. There's plenty of other bikes that are faster but that is pretty damn amazing considering it's a 900SL with two valves and cost way under 15k all together.

I personally think it's the other way around. I don't know how old you are, but I'm 31 and have been around imports/domestics since 1991. Back then a DSM could throw down 350whp maxed out, but that was enough to hang with a full bolt on 5.0 with a 8lb Paxton blower. The domestic guys couldn't believe how fast my car was.

The biggest change I've seen in racing is the use of turbochargers on V-8's. It used to be every V-8 guy had Nitrous (which is awesome BTW) or a Centrigal blower most heavily modded imports had a good chance and still do, but once the V-8 start throwing on turbos it becomes much harder to play. Go to Modularfords.com under the turbo sections and see how many 700+rwhp turbo cobras are coming alive all on pump gas at 15-16psi. It would take one heavily modded import to hang with that on the street/track don't you think?

I have posted vids and slips of high 8 that's right 8 second TT corvette's on drag radials driving straight off the street and clicking off 9 8 second passes in a row driving back home. The only difference was he dropped the tire pressure and mixed in some race gas.

9 second pump gas vipers, 9 second pump gas vettes, and this thread too 1000+rwhp TT cobra. The owner is expecting over 1250rwhp at 30psi. I actually think it's harder to compete than it used to be.

As far as Honda's go 1.8's have put down over 800fwhp and I remember Jotech putting down over 1000fwhp. It's all good as long as your having fun.

i agree with you that an 03 cobra is a better drag car(even with a rear end that's less than optimal for drag racing) than an evo, but i still think an evo is a better all around performer/daily driver that is much more capable of things other than straight line performance. i think from reading your posts, we're on the same page. like most import owners though, i prefer the role of the underdog. everyone usually expects a 7.0L V8 to beat a 2.0L 4-banger even with a turbo, so it's somewhat satisfying to prove some of them wrong.
