I understand with the first batch of 335i's some of them had oil cooler/overheating problems(pretty sure it's no longer a problem). . . correct me if I'm wrong.

I know you run the risk of getting "bugs" with any first year production. . seeing as how 135i is identical under the hood this problem should be solved for it as well.

Is it naive to think the 135i will be problem free?

Very.

Consider the MazdaSpeed 6's 2.3L... it was an old mill but in that application it ran into some heating problems. The 135 will be using a tested engine but in a smaller compartment and there will likely be intake, header, exhaust, and mounting changes to facilitate the 1 series.

Man Ive been getting really excited over this car. I just sold my EVO to get rid of my CC debt. I should be out by April/May of 2008. I wonder how much it will be to lease this thing. I know on BMW's site they offer a 335ci for $3500 down, 529/month. Thats not even so bad for the car you are getting. I think a black 135i with 18" HREs, Catback, Procede... oh man..

You are partially correct (you were in the correct path). The first production od 335i did not have the oil coolers at all. BMW is retrofitting the oil coolers to the dealers discretion.

i dont doubt its from the website...but i think if you went to a dealership, the picture might not be so rosey for a 335ci.

also, do those numbers include any options?

James you are missing the point. I wasnt trying to show "how cheap a 335i" or anything like that. That lease offer was for MSRP of $42,xxx. If the 135i is $35,000 lets say, that is $7000 less MSRP than the 335ci in this case, so I know the lease would be even more affordable. Of course, its just speculation, I dont know why I bother haha. Anything to avoid doing work lol

Modifying a leased car is silly, bordering on stupid. Especially if you have the means to add thousands of dollars in mods to it.

Adding a pair of wheels, a catback, and an easily removable procede is not many mods. Surely leasing it and doing all sorts of crazy modifications would be silly. I never would plan on doing that. The wheels, catback and procede can be taken off in less than an hour.

I agree with everyone that this engine is well designed and capable of a lot of power out of the box. However, I'm still not getting my hopes too high on this smallest bimmer. Everyone i've heard of talking about it from Europe has been underwhelmed by the chassis dynamics, and I definitely will not be in the market until they add an lsd to this thing. 1 wheel burnouts aren't sexy. I never liked bmw's execution of awd, not that I think it would be offered on the 1 anyway. BMW reliability has never been a thing of legend either, so unless dealers start turning a blind eye to boltons and not void warranties, I'm reluctant to pay the service prices on traditionally finicky cars.

All that being said, I think this will be a capable performer, but not a great performance bargain when considering the other rwd coupes coming out in a couple years for less $- new mustang, new camaro, Z370?, and i wish an rx-7 someday!

Point taken.

i think you're absolutely right about the 1 series being THAT much cheaper to lease....but after my recent visit to the dealership regarding the 08 335ci, i wanted to make sure people reading it knew they were in for a raping when it came to financing....financing a 3-series anway...
