Car and Driver Lightning Lap - Corvette dominates AGAIN.
Everytime i goto VIR... I eat up corvettes on the twisty tight areas... the long straights are where they pull away.
of course.. i'm not quite stock either.... but my suspension was.

Sounds to me like the 997 Turbo was having problems.
Despite a strong 480 horsepower, it wasn’t that happy around VIR and ran an unexpectedly mediocre 3:05.8 time, partly because of its 3528-pound mass, partly because the power went away after a couple of laps, and partly because it really doesn’t like to dance
What is your basis for thinking the driving is poor? Having driven VIR and looking at their MPH through different sections, I think they were moving along at a good pace. 130 mph at the top of the uphill esses is nothing to sneeze at.
The Evo wasn't the fastest car on the list, it must have been bad driving.
I can't think of any track where a stock Evo would hold a candle to a stock Z06. The Z06 handles most types of turns better, has more power, better brakes, and in the hands of a competent driver is insanely fast. Yes, you can modify an Evo to make up ground (particularly in the power department) but you'll never overcome the deficiency in aerodynamics and weight distribution. And yes, on a track where trap speeds over 120 are the norm, aero is a big part. I just can't understand why so many people can't grasp that the Evo is a flawed vehicle when compared to purpose built sports cars.

the z06 makes its ground in all aspects of the track, not solely the highspeed part. This is especially true if you have a skillful driver, as the z06 is not an easy car to master in one day. I do however agree it will pull on the evo even harder in the highspeed parts due to its aerodynamics.
Wait the evo lost, how is that possible? Jeez guys, it's a nice car but come on, it's also a 35000$ 4-door 4-banger, it's not meant to compete against something like a Z06. Put the Z06 on a dirt road or ice covered road and see how well it does, they are simply built for completely different purposes.
