Car and Driver Lightning Lap - Corvette dominates AGAIN.
Keep in mind, the C6 and Z06 come with runflat tires. The EVO comes with 160 treadwear tires that are pretty sticky. Given equal tires the 'Vettes would have much better times.
The Z06 is designed to be a track purpose car so there's no doubt that it's performance is so great. However blowing it's nearest competitors by full 2 sec is kind of hard to believe.
I think they should have the, "STIG" do the driving. LOL

i can't imagine anyone thinking a stock evo can hang with a stock plain-jane C6 in anything on a tarmac. Like i said before the 335i time seems VERY optimistic and the shelby's seems way high considering the reviews on its handling (lack-of) prowess.
I was watching the Top Gear Z06 review, and the STIG lap it at 1:22.4. Same as the Ferrari F430 or a little bit quicker. Some of the other times are:
911 GT3 RS 1:22.3
Evo FQ-400 1:24.8
Zonda 1:23.8
F360 CS 1:22.3
Ford GT 1:21.9
SLR 1:20.9
Enzo 1:19.0

THE EVO WASN'T IN THIS YEAR'S LIGHTNING LAP COMPARO!!
Read through the posts again, fellas:
The OP was using the Evo's lap time from last year's Lightning Lap. Laps from last year varied from 3-4 seconds slower.

I just love how people refuse to understand why the z06 is the ultimate production car under 150k.
Lets go over facts:
3100 lbs.
50/50 weight balance
505 hp 7k rpm redline
dry sump lubrication
massive 14in 6 pot brakes
6.3 lb/hp ratio
1.05 lateral g .. and this is on all season tires.
I mean honestly look at this spec sheet.. how can it not be the ultimate street car? All this and it only costs arround 70k, AND IT STILL GETS like 27 MPG!!
This car is perfection, with its only flaw being that it is rediculously hard to drive, but then again most lightweight cars with a lot of torque are going to be twitchy.
i would give anything to be able to drive one and try to take it to even 75% of its potential.
oh yeah and btw the car can do 196 in 5th gear.

Did they not test the Sti's? also I don't get why people think an Evo can beat a C6 Z06 at that track, that car is just ridiculous. If they didn't cost an arm or a leg then that would be the car I'd be driving, but that's why the Evo is the best bargain for under 30K and why I have one.
I wouldn't call the car 'perfection'. I've seen one at the track myself (brand new) break down and get pushed off the track by five guys on the first couple laps of the day (buttonwillow, CA).
The car has numb steering feedback. brakes with pads that melt and don't even last one day at the track and a stone age suspension setup.
I've driven one myself personally and it is a handful. Sure the engine is nice, but everything else isn't.
You pay for what you get for, personally between a $78k and a $100k GT3 I would pay the extra and go with something that is more like driving mecca... instead driving an ox cart.

Clarkson fans always bring up the same debunked arguments. It's like one of those dolls where you pull the string to make them talk.
:Pull string: -- "the Corvette is an ox cart."
:Pull string: -- "It has a stone age suspension setup"
:Pull string: -- "the Corvette uses leaf springs straight from a wooden wagon"
:Pull string: -- "Americans are fat, thus Corvettes are rubbish"

No one here expected the evo to come near the Z06?? The problem is the
LL2, Lotus Elise.......... 3:09.2
LL2, Cayman S........... 3:09.5
LL3, BMW M6............. 3:10.0
LL2, BMW 335i........... 3:10.5
LL3, Audi RS4............ 3:11.2
LL2, BMW Z4M........... 3:11.7
LL1, 350z................... 3:12.5
between the evo and the 500. But i guess if we are comparing this year's time to last year's time that can explain some of the difference... in which case putting the evo's numbers in there isn't even worth doing.
