Its funny, all the time and money Toyota spends on all the different racing series out there, they have no flagship sports car. And they have no real competitor to the SVT Focus, SRT4, and Mazdaspeed Protege. For all the profit they gross, you think they could get back in touch with us tooners.

I take that comment back about Toyota's lack of budget fighter. Click me. BUT it is a toned down version, as stated in the linked thread, the Caldina -- the shared platform of the tC -- has a turbo and is AWD.

that's insane. they are competing with themselves basically. the celica gt-s has 180hp and the gt has 140. doesnt make any sense to me
same thing goes for the post before that.

The Celica is supposed to be getting discontinued soon, after 30+ years... It's going to be replaced with the Scion tC. I'm sure that all of this makes a lot of business sense, but I'm disappointed that the world's most profitable automaker won't have a single high performance car (the Lexus cars hardly count as high perf. because they were built with luxury in mind first, performance second) to unleash on the masses. Just think of what they could do with their money, technology, and expertise; it really is a let down that they are unwilling to take a risk with a sports car but will instead take a risk with the whole Scion brand.

I'll buy that. Compact sedans = good. Albeit the Celica motor is just waaaaaay undertorqued. The IS300 is a 2JZGE but the diffences between that and the TT version are not enormous but they exist. The non-turbo motor has higher compression, runs smaller injectors, and I believe the head has a slightly different shape.

Yup. Supra was absent from the TAS.

Here's a TAS gallery - minus the Supra of course - just for kicks.

Mitsu is in the works for a Hybrid Eclipse with 268HP V6 in the front and a 201HP electric motor in the rear. Combined, that's 469HP!! with a gas mileage of a civic or better. It looks really nice with 20in rims and super wide tires.

Toyota racing and Toyota automobiles have no real connect. The consumer car group is only interested in mass-appeal highly profitable vehicles; the Supra, AE86, etc do not fit in this group. Toyota management also does not like to take chances; Scion wasn't much of a risk because if it fails, it's just a huge tax writeoff.

And as much as the "import scene" likes to think they matter, they don't, particularly not to corporate Toyota.
