Two things I'd like to correct about this statement before the thread is turned into the neverending jibberish that is the 8/9 vs X merge:

1. Your 8 didn't get you almost thrown in jail, driving like an idiot did.
2. If you can afford a $30k car, you better be able to afford a $600 tune. If $600 is a lot of money for you, and you can't save it up within a month, you had no business buying a $30k car.

That is all.

Same here. I compared a '06 IX to an '08 X in rate quotes across 5-6 different companies. The X was 20-35% cheaper to insure, depending on the company. The IX had abysmal safety ratings, so that certainly has something to do with it. The price increase also helps keep it out of younger hands, which I'm sure also has some effect. Indeed, my X is only marginally more expensive to insure than my Si, which itself was only about 10% more than my old '98 Civic EX.

The X certainly feels more refined, and lacks some of the edginess of the IX (I haven't driven an 8). This is likely due to its added weight. However, I'd gladly (and did) trade weight for the huge increase in safety and the addition of AYC. If you're willing to make sacrifices, you can always "add lightness" later. Adding safety is a lot harder.

I don't mean to imply safety trumps all, but with a car as capable as an Evo you're going to push it. If the worst happens, I'd rather not be in a car that got a 2 star crash rating and was banned from sale in 2007 because it didn't meet minimum safety requirements.

Everything about the new X is an upgrade. No question about it. Drive one and see for yourself.
+1

same situation and same feelings for me.

I'll also add that the VIII took a while to grow on my aesthetically, the X was an instant winner.

If you want rawness get the evo 9. If you want something that's quiet get the evo x. I was debating if i wanted the x or the ix but my gf told me the ix looks way better so i went with the ix. The x was just too big and felt slower than the ix. I drove about 3 x's and it never really satisfied me. The ix you'll feel and hear the boost kicking in. The x you wouldn't be able to feel it as much as a ix. I never looked back getting a ix over a x. Best choice ever. This is just my opinion.

Same here, I was kind of interested in that perspective. I don't think I've heard of anyone going from a X to a <X.

I have not owned a X, but I have had my VIII since it was new in 04. I bought the evo cause I wanted a nasty tuner that I could put some money in and take to the track and humiliate people!! Thats what I got, and thats what I'll be sticking with!! If Iwanted nav, more buttons to push, and the feel of luxury I'd buy a BMW! I wanted a race car that made no complaints, or tried to hide what it was under fake luxury! The Evo is rally and race car first and foremost and I personally think that the VIII/IX is the best incarnation of that!

Last year I moved from my VIII (BPU's w/ cams) to a X. I do not regret it one bit. My VIII was more violent, but what do you expect from 100 hp more? But I still love the X. In my opinion, the X takes everything that made the VIII such a great car and adds a few "creature comforts." And they sure are welcome in my book during my daily commute. I loved the look of the X more than the VIII too. Finally, when I do decide to mod the X, an intake, exhaust, and flash will put me at the same power level I was at with my VIII. Can't beat that.

You've clearly never sat in an Evo X, because while it may be nicer than the VIII and IX, it is in NO way luxurious, by any means. The seats are more supportive, there may be navi, and the interior is spruced up, but this compares in no way to a BMW. Just throwing that out there.

January 2009, I got involved in an accident and the car is totalled. It was an 2003 VIII.
I went for an IX RS rather than an X.

The X engine is incredible, but I still prefer the CTA9 + 4G63.
