Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
I'll admit I haven't read all the posts here, but I'd like to give my opinion. I had a G35 and I've always loved the Evo since the VIII came out. I knew I was going to go for the IX or X. I test drove both and I just don't think you get the same experience in the X.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be the first to admit the X is a lot nicer. But it doesn't give me the feeling like I'm driving a turbo charged go-kart. When I think of an Evo, I think of just full control and excitement. I want it to be loud and I want it to be fast. I just didn't get that feeling in a X.
I felt like I was grown up. I fully plan on buying the Evo X in the next 3-4 years, but right now my IX feels like the definition of "Lancer Evolution". Just my two cents.

Way to take the words right out of my mouth.
That's exactly what I've told friends about my X. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the car and wouldn't trade it for anything else(that I can afford anyway), but I can't help but feel old in the X and that kind of bothers me. It's nice to not even get noticed by cops, but I really do miss the "boy racer" look my STI had.

Great example , Forced performance doesn't even make FP Green for the X. Since with the stock turbo the X can reach that level, with some minor bolt ons and tune.
If anything happened to my X, I'd probably replace it with a IX RS...or something w/ RWD.
A friend let me drive his IX MR, and I thought his car had better road feel than mine, and his pedals were spaced much better for heel-and-toe downshifts. The pedal spacing is the same between all Evo IXs, right?

Just learned that the new X uses a Timing Chain instead of a belt... wohoo! that'll save me a lot of $$$ on maintenance! Also it says that the X does not use a balance shaft on the 4B11 compared to the 4G63, what does this mean?
I tried.
^ Cool! I was just looking up some info about the X's main features from the Mitsu site... it's mentioned there it was made possible to design the 4B11 this way as it has inherently lower noise and vibration due to its square design and use of hydraulic engine mounts. Guess that's part of the reason why the X is a much better DD :-)

i've owned my wrx since it was new in june of 2002. I was just 23 when I got it. By the time I pay off my wrx this coming June i'll be 28. Since 2002 I've gotten married, bought a house and done the whole "growing up" thing.
I've been worried as to what car I could buy in the next 2 years that would suit my needs. Currently Subaru doesn't offer what I'm really looking for.
I want a high powered (300/300+) car with awd, a good warranty that also has nice options like nav, bluetooth, etc. Sure the legacy is an option, but the styling is on the bland side even though i do like it. However it's in the mid 200 range and hasnt seen in increase in 3 years since this model's release.
Basically I want something that is a melding of an sti/evo and a luxury sport sedan (a4, 3 series, etc) but without the price of said lux sedans.
At this point Mitsu is hitting the nail on the head for my next car. It's a HUGE pita that my wife can't drive (read refuses to drive manual) my wrx. I'm always the one stuck jackassing cars in the driveway. We always need to decide on what car to take depending on where we're going, etc. It'd be nice to have the performance of my stage2 wrx (and then some) in something that my wife can easily get into a drive. This new dual cluth auto-manual would be a perfect fit!
I know all the guys on here are upset that the Evo X isn't going to be the purebred performer it always has been, but I'm happy that someone is making a car like this. I think it will make alot of guys that have other responsibilites (families, kids, wives, etc) as they've gotten older very happy.
If Subaru doesn't do something similar, then at this point it's the X for me. Though I would LOVE a nice 335i =)

I agree they could have been a bit more detailed specially with the X GSR's shift knob and boot (too plain for me) but I've owned 3 srt's from every build and after selling my last one I was looking at the evo but for the longest time I never drove on until I saw a white X MR up at a local dealership so I gave it a shot and I've driven VIII's IX's but the 10 MR is really in a class of it's own. I think that recaro designed the most remarkable comfortable seat for a production car under 50 grand and the interior is so accepting when you sit in it from the navi with the bluetooth synchronization to the amazing feeling steering wheel with the well placed audio switches. I think the previous evos felt more solid definately but the evo X MR is way more accommodating for the average daily driver which now days is 90% of what purchasers in the market are looking for. I don't really know but man I drove it and after driving manuals since I was sixteen I absolutely love the way this car drives because it's not like a conventional automatic with optional slapstick, after driving an M3 with the SMG it feels similar to that set up. Over all a great car for daily driving and I will be purchasing one in the near future
My friend lent me his X MR for a day and my impressions compared to the IX are:
1. Much nicer interior and exterior (build quality is much better)
2. Chassis feels very stiff and solid (almost as if it's got a rollcage already)
3. Much better sound proofing and good sound system
4. VERY VERY small trunk
5. SST - Quick and responsive transmission (even in auto mode)
6. Steering lacks the quickness, directness and feel of the IX
7. Engine lacks midrange punch compared to the IX (feels a bit flat)
8. Feels noticeably heavier (esp in corners)
9. Understeers less than the IX and seems to have more grip
The X is definitely a much better daily driver and still is more exciting than most cars in its price range but it lacks the rawness and go-kart feel of the IX. It just doesn't have the same explosive racy feel anymore.
