Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
why should I buy an EVO IX vs. X & vice versa
considering buying an EVO IX, however enjoy the EVO X as well, wondering which to ultimately buy? any insight/comments to make my decision easier would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much!
^^ get in both and go for a drive to see which one you like more. i have driven the X and i like my 8 more due to the raw feeling and the 1...2.... BOOST. the x feels more linear like all have said. it is your preferance on which you enjo better. good luck!
Evo 10 vs 9 or 8
So I'm new to this. I was curious I'm looking to get an Evo just don't know which model yet I know I want stick GSR but don't know if I wanted to go with the evo 10 or the 8 or 9. what are the pros and cons to help!!! Help a fellow evo enthusiast out.
Personally I wanted a 9, simply because more tuning capabilities and it's just a nicer looking car to me. Sadly, the last 9 was made in 2006. It would be stupid to get an evo that's older than 3 years and has more than 40k miles. It's an evo, it's just not reliable, and you don't want an Evo with no warranty. I haven't heard of a single person who drives an evo confidently thinking it will never break on him.

I'm sorry, but this doesn't seem like good advice. How is a stock evo more unreliable than any other car? There isn't something magic about 40k miles or being over three years old that makes an evo or any car unreliable. You just need to find one that has been well taken care of and maintained. Sometimes that takes a little time searching.
To address the OP. As mentioned, it all depends on what you want to do and what you want out of the car. For example, if you want something with modern amenities, obviously a X is the way to go. If you want to turn it into a track only race car, an VIII would probably be the best choice, because it would cost a lot less upfront.
It all depends on what you're looking to do with the car, and what your requirements are. This forum is predominately Evo ix and viii biased. The "other" forum is obviously Evo x biased.
I personally drive a 2008 MR (no stick) and wouldn't buy an viii or ix. But, my requirements are that the car have a 1/2 ways decent interior and I prefer the look of the x over the viii's and ix's.
As a daily driver, you're going to find more stock-ish x's kicking around for a fair price. The viii's and ix's are almost all modded to hell - some very well, others not so well. So if you're looking for something reliable and fun, I'd say a new x with minimal aftermarket parts.
If you're looking to build a drag or track car you can probably do it for the same price between all 3 models. The x's are less expensive but you're going to need to spend more money on the block to sleeve it etc. due to the fact that it's an aluminum block in the 4B11 rather than the iron 4G63's. The x has a better AWD system. The x also has more advanced Mivec if I am remembering correctly. The ix has Mivec, and the viii does not have it at all.
There is a broad aftermarket community for all 3 platforms now as well.
So - basically - need more info from you to provide a solid opinion that is specific to your needs!

^^^ they are plenty reliable as long as you don't get one that has been through too many owners. Look for one that has quality mods and make sure you know who tuned it. As for a warranty, Mitsubishi's warranty is a joke. Any mods will void it.
I'd think nothing of getting in it and driving cross country tomorrow if I could.
I've said this before on here. I like the X however I would not trade my 140k mile, 10yr Old VIII for a new 2014 off the lot in a straight trade.

84k mile 9 MR, car runs beautifully and i'm sure it will for years to come. Get 20mpg driving it like an evo everyday. The 6spd and Bilsteins are working great as a DD.
If you abuse any car it will break. And there are some horror stories on here about mitsubishi voiding warrantys on the X. The previous owner of my car had no issues with his warranty repairs and was treated very well. But car was unmodded.
Evo 8s are cheaper to get ahold of, Evo 9s get to 350-400whp a little easier. The Evo X's are growing on me more and more everytime I see one. My next car will probably be an X MR.
Good luck man. If you planning on modding, you won't be disappointed no matter which one you get.
