Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
can't believe i'm saying this, as i've honestly enjoyed arguing over the merits of both cars with other forum guys in this thread lol, but i'm done here. i think everything that could have possibly been said about these two cars has already been said in the 225 pages of this thread.
lmao you're in a debate thread, not an asking question thread. no one's gonna tear into you like i have if it's a noobie question. if you're gonna debate though, have some real info please... you may feel like you're being attacked but you're presenting info, and your info is being countered, as in a debate...
btw,
evo 9 is not a fwd bias awd car. it's not an ego buster, you're just completely wrong. it's 50:50 distribution, as the X is.. if you are saying that the CT9A is based on a FWD platform, yes that is true. The entire drivetrain is independent to the Evo though, they didn't just slap a transfer case and rear differential on... Check what the X shares its platform with... These aren't "ego busters" nor are they points of pride, like I have mentioned.
Look at end results in terms of performance for how much that matters in the end..

I also see your a review guy. You enjoy talking about reviews so I can see where and why you mentioned the AUS MRT thing from. Not everyone gets their experience from online reviews like you.
But, your right, I'm an Evo noob. I've never pulled an Evo motor out, never disassembled the SST tranny and never installed after market engine internals on one. Though I did come from the Honda world and have done it all there including a engine swap done by my self on an EJ6, EH2, EM1, DA9 and a SR20DET 240sx I can still say I know a little something about the fundamentals of all cars.
I state facts not BS. Like I said if you put an Evo 9 on a lift and an Evo X you can see the quality of the AWD build. I've worked in a garage for a short time and I've seen what an 4x4 subframe attachment looks like. I can also see when a car is just " converted " to AWD as the Evo9> is. It's not taking from the 9 it's just a fact. It's actually a good thing. It's another reason why the X is heavier than the 9.

Hahah I totally agree with you man, I don't like the x an for those reasons and more
Keep the ix or meet the x
Ok so here's my dilemma as I am here for advice? I currently own a GG IX MR SE with tasteful mods and 54/k miles. 2006 GG MR SE (tastefully modded lower mileage). I feel as though the car has become outdated and an annoyance to drive lately so I was thinking of getting a new x. The problem is I would definitely do the basic bolt ons to achieve 350-375whp and definitely upgrade the suspension to a set of quality coil overs and possibly a new set of wheels as well. I just don't know if going to a x is worth it financially or if I should just clean up my ix with maybe a few exterior mods like a JDM rear new lip spoiler and a quieter exhaust. I feel like the ix interior is so outdated and the exterior is getting to be to rice looking for my me. It feels small and almost box like. I know I have some great parts in the car like the suspension and pretty much everything else and would hate to spend more on modifying. I would have some money leftover after the purchase to mod but don't know if I should just keep it since its almost payed off or take a plunge into the x. I want to do some track day events and the car is setup pretty well for it now. It's also nice to own a car when you track in case of a possible accidents since insurance companies don't cover tack events. On the other hand new evo with a clean slate and no imperfections is very attractive. Especially since its larger and bit more comfortable for dd. I also think the x style is a bit more of my taste as I am getting a bit older. Don't know what to do? I feel like if I keep the ix a turbo upgrade might be an idea to bring back that interest again. Thoughts?

That's the consensus! I put a post in the ix section. Some though seem very happy coming from a ix to a x in regards to the car being more suited for a dd. ugh I just ultimately think I will be unhappy with the ix but like they say the grass isn't always greener on the other side. If I get what I'm asking I will sell but otherwise I am gonna just keep it.
Sounds like you know the X is for you but you think you are going to lose something. The X is still an Evo so you are still going to have the same great performance only nicer looking, my opinion and seems like you feel the same way, in a package suited more for DD(More comfortable, more features, etc...).
With that said, I'd keep the IX for a while just because it's almost paid off and you plan to do track days.

The IX and X both offer a different world of the same named car. Depends on what fits you best, and only you'll know that.
On the whole you'll find X owners will like the IX and the X, while IX owners will throw out some hate on the X as being an abomination to the Evo line. It's all subjective though.
Probably should look at it more as a financial question of what works for you or how well one works over the other. If it's a wash and there's no strain to go with one or the other, then it's back to all about what fits you best.
A local friend sold his VIII and went to a X, seems to really love it. Likes the upgraded interior feeling and style. His new X isn't too far behind what his VIII was making in power either.

Go drive one, if you havent already done so and see if you like it. Financially the answer is very simple, keep the high resale value ix. After driving the X I couldn't come to terms with the price for a new one - it just didnt feel worth it to me.
Renew your interest by detailing (clay bar, polish, polish, til perfect) the $hit out of it and changing some exterior parts like you have already mentioned. My goal in the near future is to try and alleviate the noisy interior of my ix. Its a little to "creaky" for me.

I love both cars , but to be honest I would just pay off the IX .. then worry about getting a new car.. but thats just me.
As far as the X is a awsome DD.. it has great potential and its resale value still is strong ( I still don't get why people say this car doesn't keep its value)
Point being is do what you think is going to make you happy.
If your not happy with the IX then X would be a better choice... just don't buy it just to get something new because you may think its better.
Better yet to make a decision.. go test drive one.. and then find a local with a mildly modded X and see if its good for you.

If you havent test driven one yet, obviously do that before closing a sale on your current car, I personally liked the feel of the X better than my IX stock for stock. Interior has been drastically upgraded, especially if you get one with the leather and sunroof pckg.
The IX does have an edge is sheer performance really though, and these specific evos have held their value the best, but eventually these ridiculously high asking prices on 6-7 year old evos are gonna crash, Id honestly suggest selling now while you can still benefit from these high resale prices.
Also just shop around for an X if you decide to get one, no reason to buy one at msrp or god forbid at a markup like some people have done. Many dealerships are willing to sell at invoice and even below.
