Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
I've been worse. I went Evo 8, Evo 9, E90 335i, Evo X, 135i, Evo X.
In the calm after that storm of trading stupidity, I'd like to have not swapped around so much. In a straight line, my VIII was easily the fastest, followed by the 135i.
Of any car I've had, I liked the 335i the most as a daily driver. I assume if I could afford an E90 M3, it would be the ultimate car for me, but 60k is a bit too much for a car.
To me, overall I like the X better than the VIII and IX. The main reason is for SAYC. If my IX was SAYC, I would probably still have it now.

As for the styling i feel that the 8/9 is pretty timeless. If only i had a good place to store it as well as the extra money to just sit on a car, id buy a mint condition 9MR and just keep it until I was an old man. My dad collects old muscle cars and growing up i always hated them... but now i can totally see how he thinks. Imagine how cool it would be, 20 years from now, cruising around in a minty 8/9 evo. I know im gonna look back and kick myself for not having saved one.
i used the owned a IXmr. sure it was fast, but some what the X is hella growing on me. I Love the look of the X. Its mean looking, and its pretty quick as well. if i have the choice all over again, ill take the X any day. you guys have to remember the X is slow from the factory but after the tune it has AWAKEN! look at ryan gates ride or the HKS EVO X cz200s those ride are BADDDDDDDDDD!
Noize, don't take this the wrong way, but with all that trading and the associated depreciation losses, you could easily be in an M3. I've had a similar string of cars in recent years and when I add up what I've lost, I could be in that 911 I've always wanted. I love my X though and spilt milk is just spilt milk.
I wish I could afford an M3 plus the insurance and at the same time shopping for a home. I went from toyotas to lexus to audi to civic to an X, and I think it is one of the best choice I have ever made on a car. I test drove a 9 before making a final decision of an X; 9 is just not for me. The rawness and power are too hard for me to handle as a DD. The only problem about the X is that I finally realize the so called "made in japan" quality. I have never seen such a terrible sound system and rattle combo haha. Also, it was funny how happy I am everytime I broke 280+ miles per tank of gasoline.
its not too bad. was like 1k a few years ago, probably around 1400 now

Besides the small fuel tank the X MR is a good all round car. A drop in and a high flow cat with a tune will add 90-100 to the wheels. No difference in sound with UR hi -flow cat, spools faster though. Plus at the price they r at, its a steal. 335 gets next to me he will be choking on the gust of black smoke that spews from my exhaust while I pull away.
Honestly the lack of SAYC on the CT9A US cars really bothered me. However, when you look into it, you find that the real art of the Evo handling aftermarket-wise is from tuning the ACD. This plus a more aggressive rear diff, I'll be hard pressed to hear can't near as makes no difference match the X, while retaining a more natural, predictable or traditional handling characteristic.
I'm not sure if I'd consider the CT9A styling dated per se, but I do find it to be plainer than the X. Sometimes I like that, sometimes I don't. Evo X is certainly a brilliant car though, I don't think you have any reason to "regret" it.

Sometimes you just don't know if you really like your car untill you have a few thousand miles in it and drive it for 4 seasons. (if you live in a state with all 4 seasons) I had 16,000 miles on my IX before I traded it for a X. The main reason was for AYC and I thought the X would do better in the snow. Basically each car has its advantages and disadvantages. The lack of rawness and the weight was against the X. Now the real fault lies with me for not finding this great site and learning more about my IX before trading it in. What was I thinking?!!!
This is such a classic thread. I've been pondering the perfect car for years. Luckily I didnt buy every car to learn the lesson like Noize. The VIII/IX is raw but you want luxury. The 335i/135i is fast luxury but you lose raw and driver connection. The e46 M3 is almost perfect but costly to own out of warranty. Paying for an e9x M3 is more about badge and lux then driver connection, you will probably not be happy and you will feel the $ pain.
I've driven them all. The X or another e46 M3 are strong candidates for me because they err toward raw not luxury, but still offer some refinement. My other personal pick is an 06/07 STi because it looks great wingless, where the X looks a bit off wingless (to me). The big problem with the STi are the god aweful seats. I won't touch a GR, GD only.
This crap swirls through my head every day 3 or 4 times a day. So I keep driving my Legacy GT, but I sure miss my e46 M3!

man, e46 m3 was my dream car when it came out in 2001. I almost bought the alternative 2003 sti (when it first came out ) with 5k + msrp, but i got a really good deal on my audi tt.
when i finally could possibly afford one I am dumping my 100k savings on my house. well.. life changes drastically after getting married heh.

After I wrekced my first Evo VIII I wanted to buy a X, but I just couldn't afford it. I ended up buying another VIII. I love both of the cars. the VIII and IX as already stated give you a good raw, race car feeling. While the X has the exact same ability to be just as fast, it's not as raw. It'd make for a good daily driver.
If it was up to me, I'd have 10 Evo's..... Of course one of each
