Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
luxury compared to the VIII's or IX's yeah. It doesn't have that cheap feeling inside, it rides better, handles better, etc. I guess the 13.6 stock that it runs compared to the MUCH lighter VIII's and IX's though that 2 tenths makes it allllllllll luxury though lol. Let's start modding though and put the same mods on each car and see which one quickly catches up and outruns the other in that same 1/4. All the Evo's are great cars... compared to the VIII's and IX's though, the X is just a better car.
The looks are a real benefit and reason for a 'nod' for the X. I get looks in my GSR from non-Evo/tuner people, ordinary average guys. And kids. The fenders looking rolled and the updated Lancer nose are just head-turning and eye-catching. The VIII and IX are definitely different than the Lancers of old, but they aren't by themselves that sexy looking. Not compared to any of the 08/09 Lancers. Even the RA and GTS look sweeter IMO than before.
I traded in my 2003 Evo VIII a bit ago for my 2008 Evo X. I miss the Evo VIII for its "angry" driving...It was a car that as soon as it started up, it was mad and ready to take on all comers. Mine had a stage 1 suspension setup from Mueller, and some minor engine mods but it was fast and it handled really really well.
However the Evo X does seems a bit more grown-up and has some of the things I missed. Oh how I am grateful for cruise control... but a lot of those things arent as huge of a change from the VIII. The car is smooth. buttery smoth in everything it does. The VIII was a frantic monster, and the X is the smooth *** ****. it handles exceptionally well in stock form, and I am looking forward to the Stage 1+ setup from Mueller.
Also from what I have seen so far the Evo X, responds extremely well to tuning, and with a few minor mods has some good power. I do look forward towards getting some of that manic nature back.

For 'corwyn' looking for the manic ride again, and for kyooch's observation that the IX is a better drag machine, have you guys figured out how to lean the X's weight down to a IX? That extra 500lbs or so is heavy!!!! Its all the dang wiring and safety junk, er stuff. I love my X, but I know that the weight seriously affects extreme performance.
That said, it was really fun beating the snot out the Bimmer M3's at a track day. All of them. Every generation. The only ones faster are the heavily sponsored ones. Amateur stripped ones were curbing in at 2800lbs and with R tires and a chip, those 6 bangers ROCKED. But the X's control systems were a match. But you can see in still images that my X was trying to get up on 3 wheels, the body roll from weight was so much more.
Drag strip day wasn't a lot of fun :-( I was gettin beat by Neon's with UICP and CBE mods. Bummer! I even got beat a little (bad run) by a Caliber SRT4. Really really not a drag strip car. I'm sure I'd do better, will do better, with my TBE, but it's still 3400 lbs. A chunky little beast, the X is.

... not only does the car have the cruise and electrical wiring for that, it also is pre-wired to have all the MR mods. AND the 11 or so airbags that give a 5-star safety rating gotta be heavy!
The TBE though lightens the thing by 50-60 if you toss out that really heavy cat and single muffler DSM gave it....
I see why the carbon replacement parts are already out. Demand/need.

Yea - Just look at blacktrack's Evo X - lighter than most CT9A's I've seen - But who's gonna want to strip out a brand new car they've just bought.. And especially when they're enjoying that the car is safer, with more amenities.. If there's a X as "light" as my IX (around 3200lbs), I'm willing to guarantee my car is safer and has more amenities.
And a full TBE lightens the car by 50-60 lbs?? That's hard to believe, amazing if it is, especially depending on what tbe you put BACK onto the car lol

it was 9 months ago,and not even finished yet, just a start

By the way my car was around 3300 lb just before this, and still had all the airbags etc. So i think it was pretty safe

And on the side note the X is not 500 lb heavier then a IX, specially if you have a SSL ....this for the other guy.

And, you've got yourself a race car.. Thinking about a more typical evo x, for a more typical evo x owner, it's a different story.
Good luck this year btw!
