Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
4 years ago I decided to really go for broke and buy my dream car (at the time) which was an 05 EVO MR. Loved that car to death, made it pretty quick, and really I had no complaints with it at all. I took it in for service one day at SCM, I was bored and decided to give the evox a try. After sam took me on a crazy test drive and let me beat the **** outta the car, i was totally blown away by the ayc and ended up buying the first black Evox in the US.
It didnt have enough power so i waited and waited for the zchip, only to find that i was still missing not only the power but the rawness and badassness of my old MR. After about 9 months in that thing i realized it wasnt quite the car for me.
I decided to try a different direction and sold the X to buy an e90 335i. Its a great all around car and actually what i wanted when i bought X, but something about it just doesnt feel quite as entertaining and fun. It has cool nice features that i never had in the evo like bluetooth, homelink, backup sensors, and the low end torque is something to write home about, but every time i drive it I cant help but imagine what it would be like to have my old MR back.

Dude -- You live on an island -- roughly the size of my town.
Go find your old MR - and offer to buy it back. Its not more then 20 miles from you!
I lived in Ko Olina for 8 months last year. Fun times.

Actually I traded it in for the X last year while I was away in LA for college. Anyhow I watched my old car on the scm website for almost an entire year. When I finally decided I wanted it back and I took a trip to LA the car had been sold just before I got there. FML
I test drove an 8 and a 9 and was disappointed in both of them. I ended up buying an SRT-4 instead, and then selling it and getting a Mazdaspeed 3, and then traded that in for the Evo X. The Evo X drives better than any of the cars I've driven. I need to get it tuned pretty bad -- the higher RPM power just drops off stock. Plus I think the 8 and 9 body style is beginning to look dated while the X body style is growing on me more and more.
I've been worse. I went Evo 8, Evo 9, E90 335i, Evo X, 135i, Evo X.
In the calm after that storm of trading stupidity, I'd like to have not swapped around so much. In a straight line, my VIII was easily the fastest, followed by the 135i.
Of any car I've had, I liked the 335i the most as a daily driver. I assume if I could afford an E90 M3, it would be the ultimate car for me, but 60k is a bit too much for a car.
To me, overall I like the X better than the VIII and IX. The main reason is for SAYC. If my IX was SAYC, I would probably still have it now.

I've owned the X for a month and a half now, and quite frankly, if I were given the choice between my old IX and my X right now, I'd choose the X. It does feel like a more "mature" vehicle and less like a race car, but with just an alignment and a few bolt-ons, it's already starting to feel more and more like my old IX.
sounds like some of you need to hone your decision making skills....
as for the OP:
If you like/want/need those, perhaps you should stick with the BMW....

Sometimes you just don't know if you really like your car untill you have a few thousand miles in it and drive it for 4 seasons. (if you live in a state with all 4 seasons) I had 16,000 miles on my IX before I traded it for a X. The main reason was for AYC and I thought the X would do better in the snow. Basically each car has its advantages and disadvantages. The lack of rawness and the weight was against the X. Now the real fault lies with me for not finding this great site and learning more about my IX before trading it in. What was I thinking?!!!
