Yep I agree with you on that one, people here are obsessed with horsepower here (and I guess righteously so as Evo is about mods, HP, and speed). But how much HP will satisfy performance drivers? I would love to drive one of those 900HP Evos in a rally race (not in a straightline drag race) and see if the excessive HP can be actually used/handled by the Evo chassis/AWD system without heavy mods. My point is that the engine can be overengineered to handle enormous amounts of power but can the overall body structure, powertrain, AWD system (traction) make use of it in real world performance (such as rallying) and again I am not talking about drag racing as it is of no interest to me as I find it extremely boring.

I mean, I know Evo is an enthusiasts car and historically mod friendly. I may be one of the few here but instead of spending 36K on an Evo and about another that on heavy mods to make the car into 800-900HP range, I would rather buy myself an M5 or a Porsche and get a performance car thats civilized and well refined. Don't get me wrong, I love Evos, I think they are the best bang for the buck when it comes to performance, I just don't think that spending more than 10K on mods is worth it, of course unless you are a REAL enthusiast.

As far as the new Evo X is concerned, I am not worrying about performance as I think the engiine will be able to achieve 400-500HP quite easily. What I am really interested is the new SAWC system along with the new DSG transmission. What I would like to see is Mitsu offer a traction system that basically limits the power loss at the wheels to a minimum. Evo has always been about quick acceleration and speed but it also has been about great control, handling, traction.

Hasn't proven itself yet! I will be a believer when or if they enter it into the WRC. And I see how that engine block holds up under serious punishment.

NO.

Reason #1: Dual exhausts on a car that should never have dual exhaust. Dual megan's out the back on a car that looks like a big Mazda 3...think about it.

Reason #2: The highest performance model is not going to come with a real tranny.

I'm pretty content with my evo 8. I'll stand back and see how much it likes modifications with the new motor. If anything I'll buy it and keep my 8, I just like it way too much haha

Ok the X has some nice looks but it lacks the EVO flair. Looking back to the first evo 1-9 share the basic concepts and looks. So why change to a X. Im 100% satisfied with my 03' 8 and will keep it till i wrap it around a tree. Then it will be a better looking tree IMHO. Also i dont think the X should be called an evo its more like a RA lancer. It will sell just cause it has the evo name thats it!

It depends...

Certainly like the new look and interior of X but like the driving/handling pureness of IX and earlier. I guess would like to see how the X handles and if all the new electronic gizmo's takeaway any 'pureness' or 'rawness'.

10 is ugly, body lines do not follow the traditions of the evo. looks like regular sedan rather than boxy rally car

I think the X looks awsome!! I own the regular 08 lancer and I love that. I can't wait for it to come out. But I wouldn't buy the first year. I want to see how it does. I used to own a 500+whp STi and I miss the heck out of that thing so if the new evo sucks I will be buying another STi.

definitely wouldn't trade it in for a while, never know the issues plus no aftermarket parts for a while.
