No, it's not an automatic slushbox...you people don't get it at all. I dream of the day I can blip through the gears like the F1, WRC, GP2, CHAMP cars, Ferrari Enzo, etc. I would love to not have to worry about grinding or being locked out of the next gear during high rpm shifts, keep the boost and power up between shifts, perfect pseudo-heel-toe throttle blipped downshifts, etc.

Maybe you hate electric starters too...I mean hey why have the car do any of the work for you? I think you should take yours out and install a crank handle...

Sport Compact Car.
They were told by the after one year after the DT-C makes it's debut. They plan on still bringing out the manual transmission for the EVO X.

It was in the brochure when you got the GTS.
Did anyone else see that? The brochure was all the Consumer Reviews into one magazine for the new 08 Lancers. And then in the back of the magazine, there was 2 major articles talking about the EVO. The first article, which was extensive was from Sport Compact Driver(Car)

I was surprised it was never brought up. When I get to the pad, I will post word for word what was stated.

Oh yeah. I know it contradicts what said about trying to filter out manual transmissions, but that was the reason why they are still bringing out the manuals for certain demographics.. I am at work now. But when I get home, I will double check it for all those who are still curious of the EVO's manual transmission's ETA.

 

Well this is disappointing, and a bit confusing. This really soundsl ike jumping onto the Ice with both feet and then putting one foot on solid ground. If the tranny turns out to have an issue, the recall will cover *EVERY* Evo. I hope they were mistaken.

I really hope this isn't the case. I was planning to get a Manual since I *know* I'll enjoy driving a manual, whereas I *might* enjoy the DSG. Tough to gamble with $35K, and for Mitsu it'd be a gamble with MILLIONS.

It's not a stated fact. It's just speculation.
They said they could not imagine Mitsubishi would allow a new EVO to come through and not have a manual transmission.

 

Ahh, good. I'll still wager that Mitsu will have a manual for the first year.. Though I can see them dropping it in a later year if the DSG turns out to be popular and mod-friendly.

I'll definately order a Manual if I can.. But I haven't decided yet if the DSG is a dealbreaker or not.. I'm thinking I'll still enjoy it, but... Well if it turns out that Mitsu will only have the DSG for the X, then I'll see if I can take one for a spin and find out if I'll enjoy it or not.

 

I think I'll like it. I've been playing Gran Turismo on manual shift mode instead of automatic...I like the pushbutton shifting...and you can always test drive them...although that will tell you nothing about the power it could possibly handle with mods...

 

I've been playing driving games with wheels for a VERY long time. I think the first with paddle shifters was Hard Drivin' in the arcade. Absolutely LOVED the paddle shifters. As I've said before, if the X is going to be your track car, or weekend warrior, then I think the DSG is the way to go. Hell, I'd be first in line for the DSG, if that was what I wanted the X for.

However, my X will be a Year-Round daily driver. I have to keep that in mind. On teh track when you're shifting at redline and ekeing out every last bit of accelleration, there really is very little finesse needed with the clutch; each upshift is a quick kick, and downshifts just need double-clutching and revmatching which the DSG can do handily. But I have to think about driving in the snow, and the boredom factor. I *love* driving with a manual transmission; improving my technique, and the thril of feeling/hearing the perfect downshift as the level slips into the lower gear with no effort. I won't get that with a DSG.

I sold my Lincoln Mark VIII rather than fixing it, and used the repair money to buy the car I have now because it's so much more fun to drive. Leather, big stereo, onboard computer, and 3.5 times the power wasn't enough to outweigh the pure unadulterated *FUN* I have driving stick. I know that the DSG is not an automatic, but I'm still losing half of what is so fun about driving a stick shift.

It has nothing to do with how much power the DSG can handle. Nor is it about rejecting new technology (I love new tech, I'm a tech junkie acutally). It is simply about FUN.. simple as that. I ENJOY driving. Even in traffic, there's no place I'd rather be than in the driver's seat. Anything that takes away my enjoyment is anathema to me.

EDIT: Just remembered. IT wasn't Hard Drivin'. Tha tgame had a stick shift and a clutch. The first paddle shifting game I played was Virtua Racer.

 

I'll keep my IX. I love how it is raw and aggressive and plus it handles amazingly and is fast enough for me.

 

Haha I remember Hard Drivin' and then the sequel: Race Drivin'. I played them a lot before I knew how to drive. I took my driving lessons on a standard-shift car. Having never driven one, the instructor was perplexed as to why I knew how to drive so well with a standard transmission...then he asked "Do you play a game called Hard Drivin'?" I was like "Yep! I'm great at it!". He said he had two other students who did the exact same thing. I think that game was really a driving simulator they adapted to a video game. I remember if you let the clutch out too fast it would even stall...and the steering wheel I think had more feedback than most real cars...

 

Well, in contrast to SCC, I just got the latest version of Car & Driver today. In it they state the Evo X will come out in a manual, then in the DSG version. Woot, 6 speed baby!
