Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
I hope in a year or two alot of you change your tunes and decide to trade your IX's for a X, so I can finally have an evo IX. I remember falling head over heals when the VII came out, then when the VIII arrived in the U.S., it was just nice to see Evos on the road in person. Then the VIII finally got rhinoplasty and more power and the ultimate CT9A (and in my opinion the ultimate Evo), the IX was born. Buy up these X's and sell your IX's so the rest of us can have our fun too! Jeez, I may find that X to be hideously ugly, but it would look great in your garage, bringing down the price of my dream car! lol
I like my VIII more than the new Evo X... The X looks like someone crushed the front end with a frying pan its too flat.. Not my style. Not to mention I cant drive a Automatic Evo thats just gay
I will but I think I will wait out the first year productions because of all the arising issues. Also, let everyone else be test subjects and see what the power results will be like.
There is absolutly no way I would ever trade my IX for a X. I agree that in years to come, the EVO IX will be a serious collectors car just as a 1969 Camaro RS/SS or 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454 is today. The curent EVO platform will go down in history as being a stellar performance machine that made even the most prestigous sports cars in the world nervous on a racetrack (remember the TopGear episode with the FQ400 and the Lamborghini). IMHO, to trade the IX for a X is willingly giving up a piece of automotive history. The X may turn out to be a great car but a raw, 4G63 powered, rally inspired terror it will never be. A collector car is a car that made a bold statement in it's day and still continues to do so decades after - I see the EVO I - IX being that kind of car, the EVO IX especially since it's going to be the last of the true bloodline.
I plan on trading in/selling my VIII for a X. I bought it new at the end of '03 and it has almost 100K miles on it. As much as I wanted a IX I couldn't justify the trade-in monetary losses. The X should be in my garage by the end of the year if all goes well.

I bought the IX because I modify all my cars (myself) and the word from people that I trust was that it was highly and easily tunable. It is. When I get that same word from the same people about the X I will consider buying one.
Having said that everything I hear so far about the X's engine does not inspire me to be optimistic that it will be easily tunable or servicable. I do not know how to service the wet clutches on a DSG transmission, and I don't know how the DSG will hold up under real power, assuming it is a DSG transmission and not something worse or better. I buy cars based on how much I know about fixing them because I do all the service myself. Looking at the X, I would suspect that if something breaks in the trans or engine, you are going to pay an awful lot of money to have it fixed, whether it be because of the time required to fix it (like a poorly positioned turbo) or the cost of replacement (like a DSG clutch pack).
I like the look of the X. But as I own an IX it should be obvious I don't buy a car based on looks.

I will be buying one in year two. I would like the creature comforts and still some/a lot of sport. Gimme my cruise control, but a true enthusiasts manual is what i require.
