Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
There is absolutly no way I would ever trade my IX for a X. I agree that in years to come, the EVO IX will be a serious collectors car just as a 1969 Camaro RS/SS or 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454 is today. The curent EVO platform will go down in history as being a stellar performance machine that made even the most prestigous sports cars in the world nervous on a racetrack (remember the TopGear episode with the FQ400 and the Lamborghini). IMHO, to trade the IX for a X is willingly giving up a piece of automotive history. The X may turn out to be a great car but a raw, 4G63 powered, rally inspired terror it will never be. A collector car is a car that made a bold statement in it's day and still continues to do so decades after - I see the EVO I - IX being that kind of car, the EVO IX especially since it's going to be the last of the true bloodline.
thats what i have planned was looking at the skyline but since they went to a v6 rather than the I6 they originally had planned i lost interest. I think that i will still wait though until the aftermarket catches up and the issues are worked out but i like the look though
Reading through all seven pages so far and I have to say that Mitsubishi may have a problem. I know this is not scientific and the final actual car is not here yet, but the initial reaction is not all that positive, at least in this thread. Several of you are concerned about the trans and I must admit that the manual should be standard with the "auto" as a option. The all Aluminium engine is another concern for alot of you too. I am not convinced that Mitsubishi's "upmarketing" of the EVO is going to work. Maybe it is only the hardcore that are commenting, but in the end the EVO has always been a hardcore rally derived street car. Not a GT. I guess time will tell if it can find a market...
I,m definetely keeping my BR350IX(#005) and am gonna buy the upcoming Dodge challenger with the 6.1 Hemi (425HP). Even if i were to consider a X i would still keep my BR.
i think i will trade mine in. after having lived in San Francisco for a while, i will be giving up manual for good
it's such a pain going up hill and having to stop.
*edit* on second thought...no. maybe if theres an XI

true the evo IV-IX is a hardcore race/rally car and only cater to true enthusiast and some bandwagon buyers but I think mitsubishi wants it to translate to buyers=income hence they are coming out with the evoX that will do just that. but real evo fanatics will know that the heart and core of the evo was the 4G63 and superb AWD. if they actually start using the evo X platform for WRC that would be good news since they really want it to be competitive. unfortunately, the last time I heard, they are still using the CT9a evo IX body and engine for the 2007 WRC.
Like many here, I'm planning on wait and see approach.
As a rule, I don't buy any new model on its intro year.
But, I would seriously consider buy it on 2009.
By then I'm sure all my questions about aftermarket support, true potential of the car, etc., would be answered.

There's no way I'll trade my IX in for a X. Growing up in the US, and watching WRC and being a car fanatic, I've always wanted an Evo since the IV's. I'm a sucker for FMIC's, huge wheel flares, and aggresive bodylines. My timing and finances were bad when the VIII's came to the US (Just bought a '03 GTi 1.8T about 3 months before the Evo's showed up here) I finally own the car I've always wanted. IMO the IX's will be the last of it's genre, and I have one. There's nothing on the road near the same price range for the performance/styling in the price range, and I probably will not sell my IX ever. (The last car I said that about I purchased used in '93, my 16V GTI, which sits in my garage right next to the Evo right now)
I'll buy it if the GTR is too much, I was hoping for low $60k...but Im hearing $70k-80k now... way to much, I sold my VIII about 2 yrs ago, I miss the evo and I like the new looks... minus the spoiler...
I like to try new things... Ive never owned a DSG/paddle shift car.... and wtf can I say, Im spoiled, I like the Bluetooth (makes talking and driving a manual so much easier) and Nav on my TSX... too bad its so slow and I miss awd....
