^ good points... also, as 'blah' as the Evo's interior is, the Cobalt's is that much crappier (that is, for those who do care what a $30k, or below, performance-econo-box's interiors look like )

^^And that is in shync with what I have been saying. A Cobalt SS is about $23000 so obviously there are other aspects in which this car lacks. The Evo cost more and perhaps it has a bit more quality and finish.

Each car has its own lows and highs and is up to you to buy what is best for you, I just see ridiculous that people uses the excuse "it is a Cobalt". Imagine people saying : the Evo is still a Lancer!! you see what I mean?

Just take it fort what is worth, it is cheap, it handles well, it gets good gas mileage and it has a great warranty, leave your personal opinions aside. my .2c

It's hard to over come the disadvantage the FWD has over the AWD or even RWD. The limitations of that drivetrain setup is what sinks the Cobalt in the end.

As you can see by my S/N I went from a SS/SC to an Evo VIII. Now I know the TC is a better car than the "1st gen" SC was, but still went from the same family. I can say, without a doubt, the Evo is a WAYYY better car. Over all power, handling, and just basic quality of a built car

Evo, it's AWD, has 4 doors (WAY more comfortable of a ride for both you and passengers). In my old Cobalt I would always have to move my seat all the way up on the steering wheel if I wanted 4 people in my car. With the Evo, I haven't moved my seat since I first bought it.

Basically it comes down to what you want out of a car and how deep your pockets are...

I get tired of the whole "its just a..." argument too, because I hear it all the time about a lot of different cars. And the person saying it usually acts like they just let out some dirty little secret the whole entire automotive world wasn't aware of. That being said, I think a regular Lancer is a pretty decent car and have no problems being associated with it and Mitsubishi has a long motorsports history for both Lancers and Lancer Evolutions, much more then Chevy has with the Cobalt or Dodge has with the Neon.

As for the SS-T/C I think its a great effort by GM. I know they used an Evo as the benchmark while developing the car. I also think Mitsu brings out the weakest stock version of the Evo for the first of each generation and eke out small improvements over the next three or four years until they are ready for another platform - so the best GM has to offer in a Cobalt barely beating the first model year new Evo doesn't impress me much. Evos have virtually unlimited potential.

I do hope there will be a Cruze SS. Should be a REALLY nice car.

Hmmm....I would never drive a car I wasn't 100% happy with.

I like the looks, feel, handling, power, etc in the RA. That's just me, I looked at the Cobalt, Honda Si, Subaru WRX, etc. None of them worked for me like the RA...well the Evo X would have worked as well, but it just wasn't in my budget.

The point is, drive 'em, try 'em out, determine what your needs/wants are and go for what works best for you.

They make "budget" "race" cars and the budget has to come in somwhere. They are fast, but sacrifice a lot. I think the Evo just sacrifices a little bit, not everything like a cobalt/neon srt4/caliber srt4. At least Mitsubishi didn't sacrifice looks
actally the cobalt ss is literally a cobalt with mods to supension and engine. the evo is not even close to the same setup to a lancer.mods yes but also awd to front, structural rigidity and so on. not arguing just my opinion on the matter.

Cobalt and an SRT 4 would be a better comparison..

I think I would crash both (cobalt/srt) at 100+ on a skyramp - I know the STI's I've driven felt like crap so the steering has to be even worse in that POS cobalt

If you don't mind the bland looks, the Cobalt is a lot of bang-for-buck. There's a good $10k difference between the Cobalt SS and an Evo X - thats a lot of money. No matter what, the Evo is going to be the better car, but if you're not looking to spend that much money, the Cobalt SS isn't a bad choice. The MazdaSpeed3 is a better choice in that price range though.

I personally like the way some of the Cobalt SS's have been modded visually and think the numbers both financially and performance-wise are impressive. But if the current state of GM has proved anything, it's that you shouldn't be saying "it's just a Cobalt". You should be saying, "it's just a GM." How many quality vehicles does GM actually make? I would say this new cobalt is one. The C6 definately stands out. Maybe it's just me, but I would choose the X just because I would rather support a company that doesn't over price most of there cars just because they think people are stupid enough to pay it for the mere fact that the company has been around longer and is American Made. Just my opinion.

Sorry to bump a 3-4 week old thread, but I just wanted to throw out support of the Turbo SS Cobalt (yes, I do own one). For me, I got it because it's all I can afford. A few years into the future, when I can afford more, I'll foru sure be looking at an Evo. Absolutely love those cars and coincidently, about a week after I got my 'Balt, I had a totally mod'd Evo beat the living crap out of me. He had like 4 or 5 gauges running down his A-pillar and that should have been my first sign to just let him be.

Anyways, check out this video for any of the non-believers that doubt the Cobalt isn't track worthy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3PLv...e=channel_page

As you can see, GM designed and engineered this car to be a great car for the track. Most people that own these vehicles will never take it to a track, but still... it's an amazing machine for ~$23,000. It also ran a 8:22 around The Ring in Germany (which is also where GM tuned and tested this car) which is a FWD record I believe.

As I stated before, the price is what sold me. I had always wanted a quick car, but money is an issue to me as I'm only 22 years old. I did a TON of research (prolly a solid month) of reviewing a bunch of cars (both new and used) and not only was price important to me, but so was reliability. So I bought my Cobalt new and got the extended warranty (up to 70,000 miles). Modding the Cobalt (aftermarket wise) is certainly a chore because of Direct Injection and that the car just hasn't been out that long. That said, there is quite a bit you can still do. Some aftermarket tunes can open the LNF motor up pretty well, but at the end of the day, it is still a FWD vehicle. On the flip side, until you drive this car around the track, you can't knock it. It seriously is THAT good of a track car. For anyone that hasn't and is somehow able to... do it. I can guarantee you that you will never knock the SS again.

Anyways, nice to see that too many people haven't torn the Cobalt apart yet. I'm a member of a TON of automotive forums and the Cobalt is generally hated. Glad to see you guys don't hate it... that bad.
