Chevy Cobalt SS turbo vs Evo X
Yeah, we talked about the "Lightning Lap" in another thread. Its the "see I toldya so" link every SS owner uses to prove the cars worth. I for one think while the SS is a good effort, I would like to see a rematch of cars bought at dealers with the same driver behind the wheel. Not with the SS being piloted by John Heinricy, who is a Top Gun by anyone's standards, and somelse driving the others. Should be one driver for consistency. I personally do not think the SS is better then the Evo on a track.

Say what you want, but the numbers that are out there don't lie. It's a great car for people like me where it's all that I can afford at the moment. It was a no-brainer for me to pick one up.
There are a couple videos on YouTube where you can watch professional drivers pilot the Cobalt and just listen to what they say about it. A lot of them comment that it drives so well, that the FWD isn't an issue to them. YES, once you start to mod the Cobalt, FWD will FOR SURE become an issue. But stock vs stock, the Cobalt keeps up with most anything >$50,000 on a track. That can be attributed to the wonderful job that GM did engineering it. The chassis, engine, tranny and many other things are very well done and for a price point around $23,000 new, it's a steal.
Oh. Well okay. I do know the Evo was their benchmark car while they were developing it. However, as nice an effort as the SS is, it still gets old to see the same "comparo" reposted over and over again.
That said, I do love Evo's (kinda why I joined here in the first place (9th generation to be specific)).
****, not this again. There have been multiple threads on this exact subject and naturally, the Evo is the bestest car in the whole wide world since we're on an Evo board. Despite the fact that there are two comparisons involving the Evo and the Cobalt and that the Cobalt was only 11 seconds off the Evo time at the ring (a IX, unknown origin or model though), the Cobalt is clearly inferior even though the data suggests otherwise.
The Cobalt SS/TC (Turbocharged) beat out the Evo X AND the WRX STI at Virginia International's road course:
SS/TC: 3:13.0
Evo MR (08): 3:13.3
Evo MR (06): 3:13.5
Solstice GXP: 3:15.7
Mazdaspeed3: 3:16
Lotus Elise SC: 3:16.6
WRX STI (08): 3:19
SS/SC: 3:20.6
Caliber SRT-4: 3:20.8
VW GTI: 3:25.1
Mazda Miata 3:29.3
These are all factory stock/production vehicles. I threw in the MS3, CSRT-4, and GTI because they are competitors to the Cobalt SS/TC. The Solstice GXP has the same weight and same engine as the SS/TC, but the difference is the GXP is RWD.
Bottom line: A match between the Cobalt SS/TC and Evo would be decided ultimately by the driver, they are both almost equally matched on tarmac.
John Heinricy's fastest time around Nordschleife in the Cobalt SS/TC was 8:20, a second slower than the 2010 Camaro SS's time of 8:19:

personally owned a ss/sc and brother currently owns a ss/tc. i miss my instant power with my supercharger. had a smaller pulley and intake and that beast screamed. with that set up im positve that it would take my X in the 1/4, but the clutch took a shot so i sold it. for the price you cant be wrong. i had the G85 package that came with a limited slip and recaros. very nice car. new ones too. few mods and there right up there. aftermarket hasnt hit them too much except hahn

. But for the price you get different things.
