anyone know which of the two cars has been around longer ?
From wiki:

The Nissan Skyline is a mid-size car originally produced by the Japanese automaker Prince Motor Company starting in 1957 and later by Nissan after the two companies merged in 1966.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Skyline

The Toyota Supra is a sports car/grand tourer that was produced by Toyota Motor Company from 1979 to 2002. The styling of the Toyota Supra was derived from the Toyota Celica, but it was both longer and wider.[3] Starting in mid-1986, the Supra (in its third generation, MKIII) became its own model and was no longer based on the Celica.

I like Celicas, they're nice, my first car was a Celica.

The Supra is an outstanding car, but I would go with the Skyline/GT-R any day of the week. Above ALL others.

I voted Skyline because of the versatility of AWD and the fact I just believe it to be a better car. The Supra has great looks and a godly engine, but dyno wars and drag cars with Powerglide transmissions and back halved chassis just don't appeal to me. I know there are very fast examples of Supras with stock equipment, but the minute you go down the road of extreme drag racing, it just doesn't make sense to me anymore. Somebody with less money in a SBC and a Ford 9" rear end setup on some $500 domestic beater could do the same thing or better.

I'd be more impressed with a 500-600whp car that ran 10s, but could also run fast on a roadcourse. To me, the GT-R would be best at that between these two.

I think the R33 looks best stock out of the R32-34 and Supra. But once you get a nice drop, wheels and a few tasteful mods, I'm not so sure.

In all honesty if nissan would of released a GTR in america to compete with the supra. The supra would of probably have the same faith as the 3000gt. Lots of potential but completely ignored. The only thing that is expensive about the skyline (when compared to the supra) is the entry cost. When you go for big power. The playing field becomes even.

The hype about Skyline´s in the US is ridicilous, Don´t get me wrong its a great car but its very easy to get them in Europe for cheap. Just check out what they are going for on pistonheads.co.uk

lol and yeah the playing field isn´t even close when it comes to power.

Amit B just dynod his red widebody full weight 6spd Supra and it put down 1722 rwhp and it went 243 mph at the last Texas mile event with a lot less power.

The most i´ve seen a 2JZ-GTE engine dyno was 2041 hp on an engine dyno / Gas Motorsports

And i posted all this before in this thread but i guess i have to post it again.

Stock 2JZ vs Stock RB26 motor = 2JZ wins it has showed that it can be reliable at 800+whp stock. Record is 1017 whp with a stock 2JZ-GTE bottom end

A Supra holds the record for street cars in the standing mile , 246.2 mph(btw stock gearbox, stock axles, stock rear/TRD LSD)

A Supra holds the record for 6spd IRS cars 7.91@189 mph (btw stock gearbox, stock axles, stock rear/TRD LSD)

And for the people that say a stock Supra cant handle, here is a old Best motoring battle MR2 GTS, RX-7 Type RZ , Supra RZ, R33 GTR V-Spec, NSX, 993 Carrera and NSX-Targa

while all that is true, the skyline is very rare here so more people will go for it, and very few people have the resources and the money to build supras that are 2000 hp or 1700hp and go over 200 miles per hour, and the cars are build for different things, supras mostly drag while skylines actually do races with TURNS in them, its the same deal as when people compare evo's to cars that only do drags. SUPRAS are sick cars and no one can take that away from them, just the point that you can buy one on ebay makes the skyline seem more exotic
