Skyline Vs Supra, which is King? (poll)
I am not even voting for the Slyline because engine wise I always considered it an under achiever. 2.6 liter twin turbo and only 280hp? Give me a break, the old M-3 european specs were making 321hp oput of a N/A 3.0 liter. An early Audi 90 RS2 had 320 hp with a 5 cylinder engine, you see? what is special about the Skyline?
As per the Supra, not bad but stock is a average car of its era, why not to include the 300ZX, or the VR4? I am assuming this poll is about super preped cars right?
How about we add the ZR1 from the early 90's, yeah, that one, the one that could do 190 MPH and had the world's speed record for fastest production car and could do mid 4 sec 0-60s.., it was also cheaper than the Syline... These polls are very abstract.

I thought everybody was aware of the 280bhp gentleman's agreement that the Japanese gov used to cap all their cars from that era. Most of those vehicles were underrated. Of course, I haven't personally owned a JDM Skyline and dyno'd it.
I find it hilarious that people are voting for a car (Skyline) that they have never (more than likely) or will never drive.
Supras actually handle quite well, even it stock form; just look up the old road tests of the car.
Any car can be setup to do whatever form of racing you want (be it drag or track), but certain cars can do one aspect easier.
The mystique of the Skyline certainly grows since they aren't available stateside.

Seriously? WTF?

I'm sure a lot of people who voted for the Supra have never owned or driven a Supra, nor will they.

Honestly, it's a frikin' online poll asking what "you think" and contrary to what you may believe, people are allowed to have opinions on cars they have not owned or driven. Some people prefer the looks of the Skyline, some people, like me, prefer an AWD turbo setup over a RWD turbo setup.
Some people have experience with the RB26 engine, which has been imported to the US and dropped in other cars, like the 240SX.
What does it matter? It's an opinion poll.
I've never owned or driven a ZR1, and likely never will, I still think it's superior to the GT-R, which I will also likely never own or drive.
As far as comparing it to the Skyline GTR, they were both awesome cars. I've never owned a GTR, but I have owned a MKIV. The refinement of the MKIV is incredible for how old it is. It drove like a Lexus until you were in boost. It was truly two faced in nature. It was an awesome grand touring car, which is exactly what it was intended to be. The build quality was also incredible. I ran low 12's at 120mph (filter, exhaust, and BC) in my car all day long, never letting it cool down, then did some 160-170MPH blasts down the highway. All of this with 90k miles and a stock clutch. Every weekend. You can beat the snot out these things and they take every bit of it. I think it looks better than the Nissan, but that is subjective. One could argue the drive train is far superior in the GTR, and that is probably true. But how many 6 speed transmissions out there can hold 1500HP like the Supra's? Not many I know of.
Anyways, having only owned one of the cars in the poll, I think my vote is biased, but I say Supra.

Some of you are right about the fact that most of us have never and probably will never own or drive a Supra or GTR. But the poll didn't ask us about past experience. It just ask us which do we think is superior.
I think power wise the Supra has the advantage.
Making the power and still able to drive it wickedly fast around a track, I would say the Skyline.

Well if you take reliability out of the equation the I would have to say the RX-7 is the best. Otherwise I will have to go back on what I said earlier and give it to the supra. The fact is. It was available to everyone and the skyline wasn't. Also the biggest misconception about the MK4 supra tt is that its not a great track car when in fact it is. Most people in the U.S. seem to think a 1/4 mile a track which is why the supra (or for that matter any performance import) gets a bad rap and is only though of as a straight line speed freak.
I hear that a lot, but I don't buy it. Great as compared to what? If the car is great and is a winner, then there's no stopping someone from proving it by dominating in whatever class they want to take it to. Its obvious there are plenty of people with money that own Supras. I can only think of the Twinsturbo effort as being the main one where they are going for time attack dominance, but so far they haven't reached their goals. A Supra may be great for beating up on lesser cars on the track, but the fastest Japanese time attack track cars are still going to be Evos, GTR-s, FDs, etc.

Greg at GSC has had great success with their road racing Supra. The only thing that plagues a Supra is it's weight. Once lightened, they can be a serious threat on the track. Sure an EVO will have the advantage on a tight track, but on a long fast track with big sweepers, in similarly prepped cars, it would be goodnight. For street use and light track duty, it is MORE than capable when lightly modded.
Another reason I think you don't see so many gutted track Supras running around is because they aren't a dime a dozen like Evo's. There were 3500 6 speeds TOTAL brought to the states. The cars still command top dollar and they are BIG money to modify. It just doesn't make as much sense as it does to mod an EVO. It certainly does not mean that it isn't capable. Enough defending it though, I know I'm on EVOm and I also own an EVO and love it.
