WRX 5 Speed is known for weakness, will break even with as little as 350whp

+1. Enjoy not having to make payments.

I'd be more concerned about the engine failures.... they are known to break stock.

For the amount you are going to put into the wrx just think of how much stuff you could do to the evo. Or get another toy entirely.

I know the older models had weaker trans so I decided to do a little research.

Conclusion? It really depends how you drive it. If anything, the 5 speeds are as strong as an Evo trans. If not, stronger. I haven't heard of a 2008+ trans breaking yet because it's still fairly new and all the kiddies don't have them. The guys that own 02-05 WRXs are usually between ages 16-20 and because of that, drive stupid and end up with broken trans. 06-07, it's more adults that own these so I don't see much failures with them too.

it's understandable everyone likes a new toy every now and then. it makes you feel good to know you got something new, BUT do you mind payments for another 5 to 6 years?? if that doesnt bother you go for it.

I would just enjoy not having a payment on the Evo for a while. If you want something new eventually, maybe put aside the amount you would have been paying monthly for the new Subaru, and have a nice down payment for something new in a couple/few years.

Also the next generation WRX comes out in the summer/fall of 2013 so you can put off the decision for another 12 months. lol.
