track car suggestions / discussion
yeah, I've also expanded my search to 04 and 05's. I've seen some cheaper enough to justify buying and then getting a plugnplay stand alone (prolly aem) for tuning. then just plug in the stock ecu once every 2 years when I need to pass emissions... flash pro is 700 and aem ecu is about 1500 (could prolly find it cheaper if I look around). so if its at least 800 bucks less I might as well get an 04-05... and then I can also do sh*t tons of data logging
Another cheap track car is the 350z or g35 low overhead and consistent power, great balance and yes a little heavy but that's easy to overcome with technique.
I suppose you want to get into real racing? The 350 would be ideal for that and move up in classes as you want more with the same chassis.

but, it was capable. he would have won the Amateur championship had he not gone pro part way through the season.
It discourages you from making bad money decisions for power because basically you cant make power cheap lol!! Enjoy those 2000.00 cams lol!!! I loved my g35 but could not make the power I wanted on the budget I was comfortable with.

also no interest in wheel to wheel racing, just lapping days, maybe a time attack if there happens to be one locally some day in the future
350z's don't really make great track toys. They're fun but not particularly fast and don't have a big modding potential.
That said...time, dedication and dreams can make anything happen. One of the fastest road course cars I know of is a 350z.

This is a 420whp naturally aspirated vq35de equipped 350z. Nothing short of gt3 cup cars or track special radicals can touch it. It sets a lot of time attack records against 600+ hp time attack r35s even though its actually built for wheel to wheel racing. Heres a good read for 350z fans:

Simple stuff can make this car fun to drive... partial exhaust, stock airbox and some good fluids. Beyond that making power is just too dang expensive to support if you have it as a progressive project car. 2K for cams, 1K for head gaskets, 4K-9K for high compression NA setups... my heart broke when COBB said the motors last only 10Kmiles boosted and must have a rebuild. That was 15K for the rebuild and kit.
