track car suggestions / discussion
well first of all, thats a **** ton more money I need to put in the car. not to mention I'd need a proper set of coilovers, I had ST which are very street oriented.
and I've driven a mustang with all that done... its still not a car I'd wanna be flat in turn 1 at pacific raceways at around 150... and if I ***** foot it and let off the gas, whats the point. and even with a watts link the rear gets thrown around on bumps, less than with a panhard bar, but it still does. the real fix is an IRS, everything else is just a bandaid
its like I said in my first post, I don't want a powerful car and I don't care about laptimes. all I care about is the driving experience and I want a car that I can drive close to its limit without being north of 150. even if it had an IRS, for me it still wouldn't be the ideal track car

My post was meant to point out that A: you're being too hard on the stang, and B: It's out of your posted budget with what they need to be track ready.
I know the stang is capable, its just not for me, the the kind of driving experience I'm looking for.
Going fast on both is what's exciting for me. Yes, straight line only is boring. Driving underpowered cars isn't fun for me though, going into a corner and barely leaning on the brakes isn't that exciting. That's why I have what I have. I may not drive it to its full potential, but its a boat load of fun at 8-9/10's. I could see myself quickly bored in a stock motor (NA) s2k...
which is why I don't want a miata... 200 hp is enough to get yourself some real braking going on... it did on my rsx. but I hear what you're saying, but for me the mustang is a lot faster than what I'm looking for... and heavier... means lots of brake pads and expensive tires
for the record 8-9/10's is more or less what i'm talking about when I say full potential... but I wouldn't be able to push the mustang anywhere near there for a long time. and I don't wanna be the guy that goes out there with a 400hp car and is getting passed by an RSX... and all of those guys talk a big game at the track and then complain to the marshall when I'm up there *** and make up stories about me passing with no point by and then floor it on the straight when I've been up their *** for 3/4 of the lap...
so basically fast cars going slow at the track **** me off, and I'd be that guy if I tracked the mustang... maybe not as bad as most of them, but no where to what the mustang is capable of

i've been comparing S2Ks for about a year now. compiling all the info from the different owners, here's what i've decided:
the AP2 does have superior rear suspension geometry. this can be fixed on the AP1 with money.
the AP1 revs to 9k which i LOVE.
AP1 has engine oiling issues.
the torque from the AP2 makes for a more "useful" powerband
the AP1 takes more juevos to drive fast because it's twitchy. which, personally, i like.
a decent AP2 costs a hell of a lot more than an AP1.
the AP1 will give me the experience i want (i like raw/exciting) for a good price. i don't feel i'm an experienced enough driver to take advantage of the differences between the 1 and 2. i'd never really notice the difference unless i drove then back to back. even then.. i don't think enough to justify the cost.
so, for me, AP1 it is. IF the engine eats itself, i'll deal with it then.
Did you check this one out yet? https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/5268598041.html
I say, confirm it was a theft recovery with carfax and offer him 15k.

I loved my AP1 put a ton of track days on it never had any engine issues. Although it did burn some oil but back then I used royal purple and I think that was the cause of the disappearing oil as it tends to be a characteristic of that type of oil. I loved the AP1 it is an awesome and fun car and will ruin you for every other car you drive though lol. Because you will be comparing them to that car.
