How soon before you need to decide?

Maybe you could just wait for the next model year EVO to come out. By that time, you may be able to swing a really sweet deal on a 2003 evo. Shouldn't be much longer, from what I can tell...

I'm moving down to California in late 2005, when I'm done school up here. I imagine the 2006 evo's should be rolling out around that time. I plan on trading in my car for a 2005 RS around that time, and am hoping I can save some $$ that way. With the amount of depreciation on even a slightly used car, I don't know if I'll ever buy new again.

Good luck.

Now that i have just finished reading a article in the new Modified Magzine on a built SRT-4. I wish i would have gotten one instead of my Lancer. They put 5 grand into the Srt and it is putting out 501 horses. I should have looked into the Srt a little bit more. It may not look that good stock, but i a have seen some with kits and they look good. Plus upgrades with warrenties, i am kicking my self in the ***. I must admit Dodge is definetly doing it right.

this is the battle of the century in my office, my evo vs. my guy's srt-4. i will admit the car is alot quicker than i thought it would be, he spent like 500 on upgrades and its acceleration is crazy, not as fast as my car but close enough for what he paid to what i paid. basically, the srt cut all the corners the evo didn't save on cost...great car

the rear windows only go 1/2 way down....why make them powered? I'm always amazed that people bring up something as retarded as power windows in the rear.

I'm gonna consider the 2004 Blue SRT 4 as an alternative to the EVO RS. Besides, i can save much more $$$ for mods and also keep my budget in check

that's what I'm sayin'......I'd like to have NO power anything if I could.....like my old 1991 CRX-HF.....that thing was a featherweight so when I dropped a Jap-spec engine in it with about 170hp it was a rocket!!! Cars today are such pigs cuz all the safety and power ****...I hate it. I hope the Elise changes that thinking

1/4 mile times were in the high 12's though. It does has 500 hp, unfortunatly, however, they are driving the wrong wheels. He raced a z06 and would eventually pass it, but he was getting smoked off the line. Something like no traction untill third gear. My g/f's gti only has maybe 230hp and all it does is peel out. Big HP + FWD = pointless.

Countless? A link to back this up would be good.

dollar for performance wise the SRT is definately a car worth looking at. you really cant beat it at all. and to top it off dodge is offering upgrades and warranites..... let see if we can get to do that for us.

yea the only downfall is the FWD.... but i do respect the car.... seen many hand out losses to many cars and the only thing some of em had were boost controllers. i say don't knock the car till you drive it. just give it some respect because a car company actually listened to the public. i don't see anyone else relly doing that.

k...I thought that was pretty common knowledge but here you go:

If you scroll down 1/2 way at the url below you'll see the following:

"The Neon ACR has been one of the most successful grassroots racer ever, with over 20 National titles in Solo and Road Racing to its credit."

http://www.allpar.com/neon/scca.html

And here's the Pro Rally link:

http://www.scca.org/amateur/performa...003/index.html

If you look at the results you'll see the SRT-4 finishing in 1st the majority of the time.

Check out the Pikes Peak Results specifically (below) and you'll see it even beat all of the AWD/4WD cars too except those in the OPEN class:

Every dog has their day. I'm not ******* the car... your original comment sounded like you were saying that it had countless wins against AWD cars. No big deal.

If the SRT-4 was RWD, I would consider it a wonderful alternative to the EVO. However, problems with rather serious understeer (which even an expensive setof coilovers could not remedy to any large extent, see last month's SCC) and, more importantly, TRACTION issues, turns me off. I want to eventually build the car I'm going to get enough to get into the 11's, and that just isn't likely to happen with a FWD car. 500 whp to only get 12's is just tells me there's alot of wasted power, and a lot of money going in to getting expensive performance tires. AWD traction + 500 hp should get you into the 10's with a sub-3000 lb car.

If FWD was good enough, I would hold out and turbo my Spec V instead of planning to take a huge $$ hit and trade it for an EVO when I move down in a couple of years.
