I'm reading so many good things about the new manual Supra. Gearing, rear suspension grip, and win buffeting seems improved. The only problem is finding any. Toyota production levels (even on more common vehicles) suck,
I haven't talked to anyone that has moved from 2020-21 to 2023 and mentioned they noticed a whole lot of difference. Maybe if we were professional drivers or had some fancy data logging equipment. They told me they didn't feel it was worth selling the old one for new. The post '20 cars do have the extra power, which is nice.
MT will, subjectively, be a fun drive and a great choice if not worried about lap times above all else.

Yeah, I never understood people upgrading the same car for minor mid-cycle revisions.
Realistically, I'm not going to track my next car so driver engagement and dynamics are key for me.

Wind buffeting is still the same issue. Porsche has the same issue. No idea why people make such a big deal about this. It’s a cheap fix. People have too much time on their hands and too many outlets that let them whine about such petty things.
I’ve literally had people at track events tell me they didn’t buy a Supra because of this. Absolute idiots. It’s usually people driving garbage cars. So the real reason is that they can’t afford a Supra so they bring up stupid **** reasons other than their bank account.
Same but different crap excuses last year. “I’d buy a Supra if it came in manly manual”. Supra in manual is now available, did they buy one? Of course not, because that isn’t the actual reason.
I usually tell them I don’t have conversations with peasants. That usually ends the madness.
If you guys will indulge me, I have a couple questions.
This is by far the most popular thread in this section, so if it has been covered before, I apologize in advance.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll have an older mild BMW project car/kid car at the end of the week. It's high mileage, but affordable, rust free, and really well maintained with loads of paperwork.
How has the modern Supra been so well embraced by enthusiasts and the aftermarket community, while modern BMW has completely lost the plot? My guess would be because the Supra looks great, and the new M2, M3, and M4 are overstyled and look awful in comparison. I think Supra feels more like an older BMW that is focused on driving dynamics and style, while modern BMW cars feel the opposite of that. Thoughts?

Id have a guess at the price tag for one. the Z4 which is essentially the same car is far more expensive than the Supra equivalent. The supra also carries the supra badge which helps.

When you say modern bmw, what are you putting in that pot? F80 series and newer? or G series?
There are tons of people modding F and G series M3/M4's and whatever the heck the M2 platform code is. I see a ton of F series M3's and M2's at the track.
The G series M3/4 has a pretty good modding scene. They respond very well to mods. The new M2 as well, same engine.

Not F80. That car is drop dead sexy. The cow butt grill G series cars. I know they are still highly tunable, but don’t seem to have anywhere near the cult following the Supra does.

Maybe the lighter weight and shorter wheel base and better gearbox for the manual? I recall reading the Z4 was softer than the Supra (Toyota tweaks to the suspension I assume).

The are very big in Europe, but yea, blame the weight and the looks that are very dividing after the great lines of the F series. The new M3/4 are also very expensive. I think BMW is hoping the M2 seduces more buyers. It's basically a shorter and cheaper M4. Same chassis.
I saw this the other day and I think it captures how a lot of older BMW fans feel about the brand today. I'd 100% buy a Supra over anything BMW offers today, they really seem to have lost their way and gotten wrapped up in prioritizing profits over everything else.
I have been chasing down a 991.2 GT3RS that had a 0:57.1 as his best. He was at this event as well, and of course he was on slicks this time and did a 0:55. :-/
There was also a photographer that took some amazing photos...

I think BMW has slowly moved away from building cars that enthusiasts love to drive. Now it's just the guys that wanna be ballers.
The Supra is as close to "old" BMW as they could get, while still being modern enough to keep everyone happy.
that's my impression, anyway.
I STILL get people saying "nice BMW" and I agree. It's very nice.
