What Noize just said.. I watched it over and over again... It didn't even look like oversteer & overcorrect condition or anything. Just an entirely planned excursion into the wilderness!!!
What the heck happened to that Camaro in the first video?

Some back story on this Camaro. My friend and I were gridded first as this day had an optional Time Trial aspect to it. So they grid you by times. We were both much faster than anyone in the group. However, before the second session, the Camaro guy complained that he should be gridded in front of me because I chose to not run a transponder (insurance reasons), even though it was clear as day that I was much faster. The organizer caved in and let him grid and go out before me. So, apparently the Camaro guy had something to prove and went big the second lap so I gave chase. I guess he didn't expect me to be in his mirrors so fast. He probably stayed fixated in the mirrors and then ran out of track. Really the only thing that explains it since even his line going into turn 1 was totally wrong.
I half expected him to come over after and ***** about something to me but it never happened.
Here is the only really clean lap I got all day, and right before I packed it up and left. 1.3 secs off my PB. I was kind of chilling since I saw so many wrecks.

Yup, he should have done what I did when I came in way too hot last year, as there is a lot of nice paved run off to the left of the grass. The grass will ruin your day, quick.
Always thought it was strange that tracks put grass in the runoff areas.
Grass is slippery. I suppose it would be easier to clean up and do less damage than gravel and dirt, but that assumes you don't slide right into the wall.
The combination of short runoff distance and grass isn't great.

You just described Palmer, which is my favorite local track. Surprisingly, the wrecks I have seen at Palmer usually have WAY less damage than at Lime Rock. Palmer does a pretty good job of multiple tiers of tire walls before any armco or actual wall. Tires really seem to absorb impact and don't do a ton of damage.
Here I am at Palmer this last weekend with a slightly damp track. Palmer demands absolute respect and I definitely do not drive it at full attack. I like driving home.
The same day, this C4 crashed and here in the video it looks really bad but he was able to drive back into the pits with basically just cosmetic damage.
Those outer walls at Palmer are awfully close. Good thing they went heavy on the tire walls like you said.
The more I see other tracks, the more I realize our local track (UMC) is more of an outlier in how safe it is. Plenty of runoff in most places. The most damage I've seen anyone take was a Lamborghini that oversteered coming out of a tight corner, spun, hooked again, and hit the inside track wall. There are a couple points where you could slide into an outer wall here, but for the most part there's plenty of space to slow down on runoff.
Some of the videos @Bee-Raddd posted in the past are really bad. Tight courses, wheel to wheel. Almost no room for error.

That was probably Pukekohe which has recently shut down. They used to run the aussie supercars there so they intentionally put concrete walls right next to the track to make it feel like a street circuit. TBF it was pretty exhilarating haha. best track to take passengers for a ride but yea it definitely used to bite. Lots of people either feared racing there or would just simply not go there.
The rest of our circuits are nice and spacious. This is going back into the archives a bit. car was still road legal and on semi slicks but this is Taupo where the supercars are racing from now on. heaps of run off etc.
Walls are exciting. Driving into turn 11 at Sonoma is a lot of fun. My passengers start gripping stuff. I dig it.
I should probably worry more than I do.

Exactly! love getting up next to a wall and having the noises bounce off it haha
I got to drive Spring Mountain Raceway in NV last Thurs. Man, that whole complex is top notch. By far the nicest track I have been to. The track was nearly perfect too (Charleston Peak configuration). Lots of elevation changes and blind turns which made it really fun. There was one turn that I would catch air going over every time. Sadly no videos. I need a new camera. Only had to wave by one person all day so the Supra was definitely getting it! Best part, did not have to work on the Supra at all. Just monitored tire psi and sent it.
No, sitting at a light. Another car got hit head on and caused a chain reaction. Not sure if there is frame damage yet. Will pull the wheel off tomorrow to verify. Things are definitely messed up.
