Thats another thing, dont buy a porsche if you cant afford to keep it up. My friend with the 911 carerra had to spend $700 for a rim cause he hit a pot hole on the highway and bent it (the magnesium allow is really soft, and light too)
And had to spend over 2 grand cause he had a problem with the convertable motor.

I'm more concerned with fun factor (ie: convertible) and handling......cars are slow compared to the 2 wheel action.

But I'm still not ruling out picking up an MR when they come out.......EVO's are still dear to my heart.
Fun factor is very hard to quantify and I don't think that there is a clear winner there between an Evo and a Boxster. It comes down to personal preference. Have you driven them both? What inspires you more?

yeah, I've driven them both....2 completely different animals. Convertibles have a totally different fun factor altogether and that is what is kinda floating my boat right now. On the other hand the EVO is a MUCH more comfortable car for me to drive and has the AWD and lotsa juice. It's just the drop tops keep calling me

Not a bad car for sure but I'm more into performance not just status symbols. Thats why I got the Evo instead of a boxter or 3 series BMW. The EVO will kill both any day of the week plus its a lot more versitile for rain snow and other weather conditions. Plus more room in the trunk for speakers :P

the Boxster S is actually all about performance......260hp, mid-engine, RWD, 4 piston brakes with cross-drilled rotors, sway bars, anti-roll bars, big sticky rubber, stiff chassis. You'd be hard pressed to run away from a stock Boxster S on the track in a stock EVO. It's not about being a status symbol....it's about being the best at what it does....and the Boxster is definitely at the top of it's class.

Alright, I'll have a quick chime at this.
I have owned a Supra TT, Boxster S, a 944 T , and now the Evo. All have the strengths and weaknesses.

First off let me say, it is REALLY hard to wring more power out of the Boxster. Anything turbo'd is so much easier, cheaper, and for the most part, more reliable.

Quality of construction definitely goes to the Porsche. People who claim that they are cheap on the inside, do not have a clue. I drove the crap out of it for about 40,000 miles, and the car was trouble free, and just about free of any rattles/squeaks.

Handling goes to my EVO, but the Boxster did score well. It has simliar steering feel to the NSX, S2k, and EVO. A very fun and dare I say, safe care to push to the limits.

Braking: It may not brake as well, but I have always enjoyed the pedal feel on Porsches.. It is very tight, and almost abrupt.

The people who commented on the exhaust sound: Though, technically I prefer an air cooled Porsche. The water cooled boxer 6's have a nice and distinctive note. Couple it with a B&B exhaust, and you have a nice sound. My pop's 993TT was sweeter, and the NSX was pretty great out of the box as well, but it isn't bad by any stretch.

I had those convertible humps shown in pic 2, chrome rims, and the aluminum package, and overall it garned more attention than the other cars I owned. Women will definitely be more impressed the Boxster (if that is important to you, of course). I would strongly suggest getting an 02 or later, the ones with the GLASS convertible window. The plastic was lame, and for the price, it is ridiculous to have one without.

On a final note, the most important thing should be how the car makes you feel when you drive it. I have logged 10k (trouble-free) on my EVO, and it is the only car that I truly look forward to driving. MY ole Supra would rip it to shreds, it trapped @ 117. But the feeling was not there. Get something that 'moves' you, and you will be happy with your purchase.

Alright, that become really long, and I apoligize. Hopefully, it was beneficial.

I'm confused by this comment. The S2000 and NSX are worlds apart in steering feel.

maybe he's referring to the "quickness" of the steering......I've driven all but the S2K and they all have a similar precision and quickness in the steering.

Having track'd an S and an Evo, hands down to the Evo. Fun, factor, Porsche, in that it was an enthusicaist(SP) car. And for kicks, my first event instructing for PCA was in my Evo. Best time in a modded S, 1:58:90, and that was with upgraded brakes and several power mods, but still 'street' tires. Bone stock Evo, 1:53:80. Now these times were the best lap, they are averages of 10 laps, which is the only way to see which car is consistently faster. Granted, the conditions played toward the Evo, VERY cold, and limited heat in the track, so the AWD made a difference. In fact, the Evo, turned the second fastest lap of the day, the fastest was by an AWD TwinTurbo911 on Race tires, almost a 1:50:00.

Yup, I was referring to the quickness of the steering.

actually, there is. its called the carrera gt. you should get that!

no really, the boxer s would be a sweet car, in a class of its own. and yes, it is a real porsche.

Yeah. I'll have to second you getting a Carrera GT.

You could also wait for the next-gen Boxster S. With 300HP it'll be no slouch at all.

I don't think many even try, but at TSW, usually they don't care-- I've seen eclipses go in to look at them, but if you wanna go on the track usually you gotta pay I do believe. Shrug.

As for JapEater, I can't believe you act like that. (Never have I seen a Porsche owner act like a 12 year old...) But I guess there is a first for everything.

My boyfriend has beat a GT-3 before, barely. He can beat Evos, too, he's done it before. It really does depend on the driver, and of course, mods and whatnot. Please do not make this into a "myc ar can take on your car!" thread. That's lame. Same goes for thye guys that are all "My evo could eat any Porsche!" Because I'm sorry, but I do not think your Evo could beat a Porsche Carrera GT or GT-2 or even the new Turbo S. Not sure about the normal Carrera's, though. And Evo's certianly are no where near to the class standard as Porsche's are.
I agree with you, but I think than that some of you guys should be a little nicer in coming up with nick names: IHatePorsche is not a nice name, and I think that JapsEater is a tipical reaction to that. So if one guy doesn't know where the limit is, a joke can be seen as a nasty act, and you get the consequence. Other than that, I agree, the 911 TT is an animal that belongs to the race track, and it is way too difficult to beat it!!
