Illinois Track Experience

Hey Everyone around Chicago,

I am looking into purchasing some instruction and track time for my Dad for Father's Day. He has a 2007 base Corvette, me a 2011 Evo x. Just wondering about anyones experiences with the tracks and instructors/experiences in Illinois. Thanks

You should take him to Skip Barber Racing School at Road America in Wisconsin. Depending on your budget you can choose from a variety of classes.

Great group, great track to learn on. 2 days will set you back $380.

I like Hooked on Driving or MVP Track Time at Autobahn. I instruct for Chin Motorsports and I love their event but they wont be coming back to Autobahn this year. Closest is Mid-Ohio

No offense, but horrible group. Will never do anything with ACCCCCCC again. Would not recommend to anybody.

Worst auto-x experience ever. They seemed friendly and all, but it was so horribly ran and organized... the track setup kinda sucked. I say kinda because for the most part it wasn't terrible, but there was one particular spot that my car literally could not fit.

Since the discussion was on a track with ACCCCCC and not auto-x, then the crappy course argument is invalid, but I can only imagine the horrible organizing would carry over to an HPDE.

I welcome anybody to give it a shot and hope for the best, I just know I would never personally recommend going to an ACCCCCC event nor will I ever go to one myself again.

you're telling me an evo can't navigate a course set up for an Audi? Tell me how many autocross events have you done total?

If you're looking to get on the track, you could drive a few hours to Gingerman Raceway in Michigan and do CGI Motorsports HPDE. Great group and with excellent instructors. cgimotorsports.com

^^+1^^

I'll never go to a track event again that allows novice drivers on track without an instructor again. A local shop here in the Chicago area allows anybody driving anything to do it and inevitably everybody gets punished by being made to sit around waiting for hours while they clean up the carnage. Sad that people get fooled into taking their cars on track not having any idea what their cars can and can't do before it's too late.
