ralliart sst stalling!?

hey guys, im posting for a friend since his English is kinda hard to understand...
basically the car stalls when changing from R to D sometimes.. and stalls when you stop at red light and tap on gas a bit go take off. both happen occasionally. last week it happened 3 times. seems like its happening more and more. since i have cleaned the intake sensor, it only happened once since last Thursday.

here is the full detail of what happened:
- i had UR intake and axle back installed, the car was fine didn't stall at all but car does shake a lot during heavy acceleration because intake was too loose without support
- after 4 month i got sick of the problem and bought Injen CAI. and HKS cat back with AMS HFC (causing a Check engine light).
- i was happy with the result but at low rpm the engine was knocking! must have a tune with injen CAI!!
- about a week later with the intake, the car stalled for the first time before the tune. (changing gear from R to D)
- so i went to get a tune after and had constant power all the way up to redline (now at 7300rpm) and i was happy
- and then the following week the car stalled 3 times .. its quite dangerous since i was turning left during one of those stalls

the car is at 31k km right now. problem started at 29k km. so far no tranny fluid flush yet
Anyone know what might be the problem? SST tranny failure? or need to change transmission fluid?

i cant really go for warranty because i cant show the tech the problem..

thanks in advance for input!

You could go for warranty, and they'd have to duplicate the problem. But I'd take the intake off, put the stock rom on and see what happens... If it still does it take it in, if not, you know its the tune/intake.

Who installed the intake? Possible its loose?

Does he have the Blue fuel relay installed? My wife's RA was having start-up issues and after I switched her over to the Blue relay, she was good. There might not be any connection between to two situations but it seems that this relay failing can cause a myriad of issues.

I'd have to agree, not an SST issue, sounds like a fuel delivery issue.

Since it has a aftermarket intake, I would lean towards that. Needs a proper tune, if it's doing this still AFTER tuning, then, again, it needs a proper tune.

the intake was installed properly. we checked over all the bolt to make sure its not loose.
but the HID is kinda blocking the intake pipe so intake pipe is squished lol. not sure if its that

i cant really take it in to the dealership because the problem does occur all the time. i did try, but they said they need to experience the problem.. lol

as for the tune. They are pretty reputable around here. build many turbo cars. my friends 350z tt was build and tuned there. Car was fast and reliable. they are the FI specialist around haha.

they have tuned many evo X MR before. gained 100whp and ran without problem for a week before the car was totaled.. we think it might be the intake because it started to happen after injen intake was installed.
we thought it was tranny problem cuz the tuner pulled some engine code and checked on this fourm and said many ppl have same code and is caused by the sst transmission.

its been almost a week without stalling.. hopefully the problem went away!

thanks for the input guys
if problem does come back ill try using blue fuel relays

.... i apologize if i offended u in anyway.. but im just saying its unlikely.

i am still trying to find another shop that are experienced with tuning turbo cars for a second opinion.. not too many shops around that is specialized in F.I. cars

My old MR wouod stall with this intake system if I turned off the car after a longer drive followed by a restart. It might be from the heat soak as the SST is right underneath the open element filter. Try removing the metal flaps on the hood vents if you haven't done this already.

Look at it from this perspective.
  • You have 6 posts.
  • You are telling one of the best tuners on this forum, who also happens to be one of the most knowledgeable about the SST he is wrong after asking for advise and him giving it.
  • You obviously don't know what your doing seeing as you installed an intake with no tune.
  • You *think* it might be the intake, yet the problem didn't start until you installed it.
  • Your tuner obviously didn't fix the problem seeing as its still there.
Uninstall the intake and put the factory tune back on. Your issues WILL go away. Unfortinately you can't really run around in a car tuned for an intake (if it even was) without the intake, so you cant do one at a time. If you really want to use the intake get ahold of any decent e-tuner and have them work with you. Not having a good shop near you isnt an excuse.

And I have to ask, you say this tuner is good, and the last Evo they tuned got 100HP, then wrecked... Was it cause it stalled while he was pulling into traffic?
