Removing/Checking sst filter ?

I'm gonna get my oil changed hitting almost 7k miles (change #2 though haha), and while the car is up I was curious with the sst filter...can it be removed so I could see if its dirty without draining the fluid first, or would the sst fluid have to be drained first? I don't wanna remove the filter and bye bye sst fluid on the ground lol. Im wanting to just see if the filter looks decent or if I should look into replacing it soon.

im not 100% sure but i don't think there is a way to check it without draining the fluid too. 30k is when the manual says it should be flushed but it seems that a lot of people like to do it about every 15k just because these trans have had problems and they're super expensive. what i'm gettin at is that you should be fine for quite a while still unless you track the car pretty often.

I did my SST filter change a few weeks after the fluid change (because I didn't have the filter in hand during the fluid change). It was not a problem. You will lose a little bit of fluid (from what's collected inside the filter canister), but it's not actually filled when the car is off, so as long as you take it off fairly straight, you will only lose a few drops. It's probably a good idea to pinch off the hoses in case there's any flow through them. I did that, but it didn't seem like there was any flow anyway, probably because the filter is not the lowest point in the system.

just switch it out when you hit 15k, along with an sst fluid change. I just did a 60k maintenance on my 2008 evo x mr.

For the fluid, I bought Pentosin FFL-2 (Same exact thing as Mitsubishi Diaqueen STF Fluid, the Diaqueen is just rebranded, theres a thread called "all about sst fluids" under the SST thread if you think im lying) The fluid was only 150 shipped, whereas the diaqueen is about 240-260.

For the filter, I bought the SSP OEM Filter replacement, it cost me about $80 whereas if you were to buy it oem, it would be around 150 for the same damn thing pretty much.

If I could go back in time when I first hit 15k miles, I would do the sst fluid + filter replacement. I did mine every 30, no real problems detected, but if done every 15 im sure the sst would love me.

if you go with FFL2 when you change it, you'll save a pretty good chunk of cash. and if you get the SSP reusable filter you only have to change the fluid twice to make your money back. just some suggestions

I don't think "Pentosin FFL-2 is the same as Diaqueen" is true. Check facts before taking advice from the internet. You don't end up saving that much on alternate fluids, especially if you don't race/track your car and can go with longer intervals. I am going with every 10K for fluid change (Diaqueen) and the SSP reusable filter but I'm a little harder on the car than those who just daily drive.

Wanted to bump my thread to ask another question. With all you guys changing the fluid and filter yourself, does that void our warranty on the sst? Since it wasn't done by a dealer or professional shop? My buddy works at a dodge dealership and uses their lift when he changes oil and stuff and that was my plan when I do the sst but don't wanna void the sst warranty.

When you change your own engine oil does that void your warranty? NO This is what my argument would be haha.

Also Pentosin FFL-2 is exactly the same as diaqueen. They did tests on it. Getrag would not make a transmission that uses a mitsubishi sourced oil. Look it up Pentosin is actually I believe a german company, just like Getrag...BOOM.
