I figured I would post as a warning to the people in the SST community looking to get their transmission rebuilt or upgraded. I sent my transmission to Kris at SSP around a year ago, everything regarding the rebuilt supposedly went well. The transmission was sent if for the #4 Shift Fork and when it was opened Kris said there was nothing wrong with the transmission. It was cleaned, painted, and reassembled. When I received the transmission I instantly had problems getting a teach-in to execute properly. I was told by Kris that it was fully a software issue. After around a month worth of attempts I was told by Kris to inspect the valve body to see if anything looked unusual. I found a plug from the valve body partially dislodged and pressed up against the side of case. I was then instructed by Kris to replace the valve body and all my issues should be solved. I ordered a new valve body from Mitsubishi and installed it according to the service manual. After that the issues with the teach-in still there. I took my car to the local Mitsu service shop and they checked over all the work I had done in regards to installation and programming and said everything look good. They also tried to perform a teach-in and got the same result as me. When I contacted Kris with this information he said it was a programming issue and said that any code on the car will prevent a teach-in. I spent the next 3ish months replacing all kinds of sensors and parts that may have been the problem. During this period my car also sat at a body for 5 months waiting to be repainted. Fast forward till around 3 weeks ago. I got my back from said body shop and continued clearing everything on the car. During this whole time Kris had been very responsive and incredibly helpful. 2 weeks ago I reached out to both Kozmic, NRG Ops, and Boostin Juice Performance in Australia. They all gave me the same answer. It appeared there was a problem with a shift fork, but since my car had a new valve body it couldn't tell that a shift fork was out of place. I brought this to the attention of Kris and he became unresponsive. I sent a him a few emails, have tried calling him multiple times, and even asked the previous owner of my car to see if he could get a hold of Kris. Kris answered him but the instant my name was mention Kris hung up. As of today Kris has blocked my phone number and has still refused to respond for over 2 weeks. SSP has cost me thousands in rebuild fees, extra parts, and towing all to just ignore me when a problem comes up. Keep in mind my car was at least still drivable before Kris got my transmission. Someone did post a similar issue with Kris back in 2012 but the owner never made a follow up post. I love the products SSP makes but just be careful and their shady business practices.
Yeah my guess is this will get drawn out for quite a while. I can’t say to much about what I am doing other than my lawyer is getting some paperwork around.
Kris never got back in contact with me and my phone number is still blocked. I got a really good deal on a Kozmic built SST so I just sold it to some guy on marketplace for parts. I ended putting 6-7k into that last transmission just for it to end with a year of downtime on my car. As of now my car is finally going back together and I am getting another Evo next month to hopefully I wont run into these issues again.
