Just so you guys know I ran some FEA on the ol' computer on the child restraint "loops" which are found under the rear seat. I had my harness mounted there for one event. I won't be doing it anymore.

At 300 lbs of STATIC force the child anchor under the seat had failure areas (yielding). At 600 lbs of static force there was wide spread yielding.

If you are not up to par on your physics STATIC and DYNAMIC forces are VERY different. The forces important here are dynamic, but is easier to run numbers statically.

So what's important to realize is that a 150-200 lb person can generate 600 lbs of "dynamic" force very easily.

The act of taking a 100 lb object sitting on a table and lifting it so it is directly above the surface (almost "touching" if you will) and then "letting go" or allowing the weight to be transfered to the table places a 200 lb load on the table at the time of impact. Actual acceleration during this experiment is not even visible, but the load doubles. Get the point?
