4th gear on the 6spd is 1.100:1, so the tooth ratios would have to be 11:10, or 22:20, or 33:30, or 44:40, etc. Below is a pic of razorlab's broken 4th gear set. When I count the teeth, I get 33:30. If there is a revised 4th gear for the '06 MR, and it has more teeth, then its going to be 44:40, so it will have 11 more teeth on one gear and 10 more on the other while maintaining the same gear diameter (shaft spacing couldn't not have changed). Adding that many more teeth would make the teeth much thinner, and would not make the gears stronger.

At any rate, one possible way to finish this debate is to call a parts counter and get the part number for 4th gear on the input shaft for an '05 MR and an '06 MR. These part numbers are readily available, and if they are the same part number, then the 4th gear sets have to be the same because if one gear in a set is not changed, then the other is also not significantly changed.

You did it for the output shaft where the part numbers are not available. I'm saying that it should be done for the input shaft where the part numbers are readily available.

I'm still wondering if anyone has found any substantial differences between the VIII MR and IX MR 4th gear.

just to put that into perspective:

1) what is your whp / wt ?
2) what fluid do you use ?
3) how often do you change it?

thanks

me + full fuel is 3500. I run 18-19 psi on track, roughly 280 whp (300 @ 21 psi then backed off boost + timing).

Use stock fluid.

Changed it after 12 events. About to change it now after 26.

Average track miles for an event is roughly 160-180. I'm that guy thats out throwing the car around for the last 15-20 minutes when everyone else is packed up. Just getting more laps, more laps, more laps.

Haha, sunday was day #1 as an instructor.

So the boss of the club i run with was giving me a hard time, as i was harrassing the Panoz race cars (for the 2-3 laps while they were trying to get the slicks hot).

Then they got them warmed up and it was see ya later, but for those first 3-4 laps, man it's fun, because they're trying to get away, like "damn, why is this evo in my mirror". One guy even completely blew the braking on the hairpin while in front of me All in good fun though. I think it's honestly fair to say that i drive the wheels off my car. I honestly think that a better driver could run a 1/2 second faster in my car, but not a full second. (at least around my local places).

18-19psi probably isn't making much torque, which is what we really should be looking at here.

My car makes 318whp/314wtq now on a mustang that reads like buschurs, aka low.

Let's see how long 6spd #2 lasts.

Remember you can make a lot of HP with very little torque, it just needs to be made at higher RPMs. Sheer torque is what breaks gears, ofcourse the higher the RPM the more the heat due to friction. This is where cooling and type of gear oil comes into play. The FQ 400 series uses HP rating to classify them selves.

I believe it is done by Ralliart UK.
